Hey Guys this goes out to all the people in the Northern VA area and MD. IF you have a radar detector what is your experiance with it and have you ever been caught with one of those Radar Detector Detectors that the police uses. I am mainly debating between the Escort 9500i or the Beltronics STI. Obviously i want the best performing one but also make sure that is it invisiable to any detectors that cops might be using. I am not sure if on Nova they use that v2 stuff or the Spectra....

Thanks,

BigO

I'm in MD, have lived in VA and still go there, and work in DC... so you can say I know this area. I roll with the Beltronics STI Driver and I have never had a ticket or been "detected" since having it almost a year now. It has definitely paid for itself already in saved tickets. Its perfect if you have a lead foot, drive through those snobby neighborhoods with hidden speed cameras everywhere (where you get those annoying 35 in a 25 tickets), and is a MUST for VA where you can't use one at all.

However, my legal disclaimer after saying all that is that I recommend you do not break the law.

I hope that helps.... happy and safe driving to you...

If I remember correctly, radar detectors are illegal in VA. You might wanna read up on that.

give us a review if you so choose to go through with it. I've Been looking at that same model for a little while but hesitant b/c of the hefty price tag.

Hmmm...I'm very skeptical of that sites tests. In their radar tests they show the V1 outperforming all the other high end detectors by huge margins, and also show a LARGE difference between the performance of the STI driver and RX65, which are basically identical inside save for the better stealth capability of the STI.

It also shows much different results than all the other more respected radar detector review sites...

Just my .02.

guysoflidar is one of the most respected radar detector and laser jammer sites anywhere to be found. they have no hidden agendas like many of these other sites and have no allegiances to any company because they get kickbacks or rewards for skewing reviews and results. they are highly praised on radardetector.net forums for really having their $hit together when it comes to this stuff. so therefore i have to disagree with your statement that there are "other more respected" sites out there.

as for the OP: Bel STI is the way to go for stealth, especially in VA where yes RD's are illegal. some of the newer models from escort including the 9500ci have not been thoroughly tested for stealth as of yet. and of course, be sure that the areas of VA you travel do not use laser. if they do, you will need to invest in a laser jammer system as well.
