how to convert VOB to WMV

How you can convert VOB to WMV format files
When you have gotten VOB files copied or extracted from DVD and if you need to convert the VOB files to WMV, here is the help guide to show you tips on how to achieve it step-by-step. The tool we use is Xilisoft Video Converter, which often can convert among most video formats as well as help you clip, crop, merge videos, water mark and add subtitle and so on.

I'm trying to edit a dvd file. I know I have to convert the vob file into a wmv but it keeps shortening the length of the video. I've downloaded at least 6 different converter programs and none seem to help. I'd like to edit this video in Windows Movie Maker. Please Help!

It may be worth a try to rename the .VOB file to
.MPG or .AVI. If it imports without converting you
could drag it to the timeline and immediately
Publish it...this would create a .WMV file. Then
re-import the .WMV file and do your editing.

I have no idea which converters you tried but the
following links may be worth a look:

There are many converters available on the net...
the following links are just examples.

***Proceed At Your Own Risk***

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

1) Format Factory (freeware)
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
(the 'direct link' is fastest)
(the file you want to download is : >FFSetup270.zip<)
(FWIW...when installing...you may want to uncheck
'all' the boxes on the final screen)
(Windows XP / Vista / 7)

First you will need to unzip the file or just open the
folder and drag FFSetup270.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. Left click it to install.
