Thanks for your input! If you can listen to my video and tell me that is what your car sounds like, I will likely give them the go-ahead on the procedure. I change my oil, so I know it will not have sludge, but it is very aggrivating to have the rere's move the car/heat it up, then go listen for a noise...grrrrr

So, this is Town North who you're dealing with now, correct?

I wonder if TN or Classic would accept the results of my own investigation to perform work. I mean, if I could pull the VC and take some photos. Maybe evidence of a scored VC underbelly.

I don't think my VVTA is severe enough yet to cause an issue. I think my chain must be stretched, because I hear a tapping/clacking sound at like 3-4,000K RPM, but don't think I hear anything at start up. At least not every time. I had Wednesday and Thursday off. Going to pull the VC then to see what it up.

Sadly, all of my service records were misplaced when I moved a year and a half ago. Pisses me off, cause I had EVERYTHING. Mod receipts, service records...everything.

Anyway, the dealer should have all of my service on their record books. Mine not having them in paper form won't pose a problem, will it?

I went in fully modded & tuned. Same as I drive it every day, 22 PSI, FMIC & everything. No paper, no receipts. There was no asking about oil changes, nothing.

Of course, when I first asked after this last January I was clear with them that I was out of warranty, had done substantial work to the car and had no expectation of returning to the dealership for warranty work. I was very clear and upfront about what was done to the car and that if it would be an issue for them in any way that I didn't want to bother them or be a waste of their time or mine.

If anything, it put everything front & center so there were no false expectations.

Hmmm...

Considering my dealer has very recently offered to try the vent kit on my car for the smoking issue, fully aware of all of the mods, and considering they have done some warranty service on it in the past with the mods, I consider them mod friendly.

However, my long-time advisor recently departed, and they also have now a new service manager. I'm not sure what to expect from him.

I guess I need to send my new advisor an e-mail. The one-up I have on the new guys is all of the techs are the same, and they are all very familiar with me and the car, and are friendly.

Anyway, thanks for the info, Eric.

Yuppers, that's the one- that rattle for abour 1 full second right at engine start. Goes away almost right away, as soon as oil pressure builds.

Mine lasted a touch longer, but that is indeed the sound of chain on cover.

I know for sure cause mine doesn't do it any more.

The service advisor just called and said the following:
- temperature has no effect on the noise
- the car sat a few hours, which is enough to replicate the noise

This is after I explained it gets worse the colder it gets, and it only does it on an initial cold start...FML these people are morons

Might as well pull the VC and inspect it myself, just to play it safe.

Or I guess I could go there before they close and listen with the advisor, who has no clue what's going on...
