I've removed both O2 sensors on my car several times. PB Blaster is definitely key. I suggest starting with the engine hot, and spraying the sensors before starting disassembly to give the penetrant time to work. When you get to the point you are ready to remove the sensors, everything should still be warm, which should help. Also, try to get an O2 sensor socket rather than an open-ended wrench (which is more likely to round over the sensor).

Some more tips of mine: http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?show...mp;#entry996948

I was worried about it too and I f'ed it up... I stripped the sensor and had to have it replaced. Live and learn. What I spent on getting stuff fixed I should have just had a place do it for me. I had 44K miles on my car.

The key to removing the OEM O2 sensor is patience. You need to work it out slowly with slow, smooth back-and-forth motions to prevent galling and complete stripping of the threads. Mine was "bound" up and I got it out with only minor damage to the threads. I cleaned the threads up with a file and installed it into the new dp just fine. If you're not a club fist like most dealership goons, you can get it out and reuse it.

Yah, take the upper heat shields off that block the upper one then get the car hot and follow what forzda said. Back and forth if it gets tight is key to prevent it from catching or binding up. If it gets tight spray it and tighten it back down going back and forth to losten it up and keep working it out like that little by little.

You'll most likely want to reflash to a different map because your air flow will now change. Unless you are already running a stage two. Most instructions will say to remove the battery cable to reset the fuel trims when doing another mod, however if you reflash to a diff map the AP will also reset the fuel trims. I'd say one or the other. Plus you'll get a CEL if you disconnect the O2 sensor if things are on. I use the radio when I'm working on the car, so I always get CEL's from disconnecting shit!
