Guys,

My dealership just informed me of a fairly new Mazda TSB related to "clogged EGR valve". Apparently, there are multiple cars showing P0300 CEL, and I can see evidence of that in the forum here. Some of you have had your plugs changed, some have had new O2 sensors. But, even after these remedies, some continue to have problems, and at least one person has lost a motor.

I thought you might be interested to know that when they were working on my car they had two other MS6 in for similar problems. Perhaps the cars are getting up to the age/mileage that this problem is coming to a head, and I bet we are going to see a formal RECALL for this one eventually.

Anyhow, when they opened up the cars at the dealership, one of them (not mine) did have clogged EGR. My EGR was OK, but it turns out my LOW VOLUME FUEL PUMP was dying, and was not pressurizing correctly. 2006 MS6 - Car has 37k on it. I would occasionally get hesitations especially accelerating in second and third gears. And, yes, I would get P0300 about once a month, at the most random times... like cruising at 70 mph on the freeway with cruise control, or just driving nicely around town. Until last week, dealership was perplexed. They had put on new plugs, analyzed the car up and down, no dice.

Attached you will find a redacted PDF of the fuel pump work. Hopefully someone on the forum here can grab us a PDF copy of this newest EGR TSB.

Hopefully some of this stuff will come to a head, and we can get Mazda to officially do a recall. P0300 is one of the hardest codes to troubleshoot on these cars. I personally have been to the dealership 4 seperate times in the last six months. On multiple scans my fuel trims looked good, saw single digit misfires on all cylinders.... the dealership didn't understand why my car was misfiring. As an owner, VERY VERY frusterating when even the experts can't figure out what is wrong.

Hope it helps.

-Brian

Well, FWIW, since the low pressure fuel pump was replaced on my car, no more P0300... yet.. It's been a few weeks now, so if it's going to return, I'd expect to see it again soon.

Did anyone ever find a copy of the new TSB?

I just went to my local mazda dealer for the "improper EGR flow" issue. My check engine light would be on for 8 hours then off for a few days. It also doesn't turn over right away when cold. They told me I need a new EGR valve which would cost over $800 including labor. I'm a little suspect and am going to stop by my local mechanic tonight to see what he thinks. Has anyone else replaced their EGR?

I started getting this CEL about a month ago. My car has 63k on it. Usually comes on when I'm at cruise or driving a steady speed for awhile and it goes away after a few driving cycles. I don't want to spend money on having it fixed if mazda doesn't know wtf is wrong with it. I saw a thread somewhere on how to delete the EGR so I think I might do that.

Reviving an older thread here... I just got this P0300 code over the weekend. Took it in and got spark plugs changed (probably because of that other older TSB). This morning got it again on cold start. Taking it again to see what they say. At 44000 miles I'm glad it happened now rather than after warranty.

I'm getting the same thing myself. I started getting the P0401 EGR code a few times and it would clear itself after awhile. Now I'm getting the random not wanting to start problem, and both P0300 and P0301 codes. All the misfires are occurring during the warm up periods on cold starts, at idle. My idle is also getting very uneven and rough, and the vac readings are getting further and further off from their norm of -20 to -21. I'm getting as low as -15 or so at idle now. The P0300 will come up within a day or so of me clearing it.

My dealership is a PITA about mods now, so I have to take off the ETS and CAI and bring it in before I get past the magic 50k mile marker...I'm at 46k now.

Before this I hadn't had a single CEL other than a single P2006 two winters ago.
