Default Why did Mazda uglify the new Mazda 6?????

Check out these two pics:

Hot:

Not:

Can you see the difference? The top pic is the concept Mazda 6 and the bottom is the production Mazda 6. The top looks awesome and beautiful, and the bottom looks like a shoot-me-in-the-head-I'm-so-bored Camry.

What's the difference is that the front of the concept is longer and the rear is shorter (making it look a lot sportier), and in the production version this is reversed: the rear is longer but the nose is shorter. This was obviously done for practical purposes but it looks like sh!t.

I am seriously mad about this. It's complete disrespect for the auto enthusiast. They're telling us that we're so friggin boring that we prefer a few more inches of trunk space than to drive a car that looks amazing.

I guess that is your opinion.

I'm in love with the new 6. The Camry reference makes less than no sense.

They don't look that much different, and I think much has to do with the paint job.

Also, the 6 is aimed at an older demographic, and that's where Mazda has clearly been taking the model since Gen 2.

It still looks better than a Camry or Accord so I don't think it's as big a travesty as you think. Then again, I prefer the Gen 2 to the 3...might be in the minority though.

A concept, is well... A concept.

They always dumb down production models. (Check out the concept for the FR-S, and look at it now lol). You have to think they take pricing, manufacturing costs, practicality all into account when revising a concept car for the masses (and not enthusiasts, the average daily driver as enthusiasts make up a small percentage of sales).

...but that's what modding is for! Give it time, and you'll see some sick 3rd generation 6's.

dude flip that 2nd image so they both face the same way. Also the concept drawing might not be a great comparison it has no shadows or depth.

what are you implying? That they are the same car? Study the front nose - the design is different, and the concept nose is clearly longer and the door handles are different.

As for all those justifying the changes - I don't see why they couldn't have maintained the concept shape. There's no practical reason why they can't. I see now that the trunk space looks almost identical but what makes the production model's rear look longer is the bumper is sticking out more in an unattractive manner.

Still, I think there are many more handsome looking sedans out there, but IMO there are none from Japan.

Proof that "sedan" doesn't = "boring"

See how the rear bumper doesn't stick out in an ugly way? Proof that you can pass safety standards without making your car look ugly.

I'm not sure you can compare a Mazda to a Jag.

All personal opinion. The 3rd gen seems to have a much more favorable(to most) body style. The new engine options obviously help that too.
