Question '05 Front Parking Lights

Hello, I just purchased a '05 Mazda6i Grand Touring.

I have a question about the front lights. Specifically, which lights should come on for the "parking lights". Initially I thought that the amber bulbs between the headlights were supposed to come on, but they do not. So I replaced those bulbs, but no change (those bulbs do work properly for turn signals however). All fuses appear to be working.

At this point, all that comes on on the front of the car with the parking lights are the small "side marker" lights in the bumper. Is that all that should come on, or should the amber lights by the fog/headlights come on as well?

Here's a pic so you know which model I'm talking about:

Thank you so much! I did not even know that little bulb was there next to the high beam, and the manual is not really clear on that either. It's nice to know there is no electrical issue with the car, and that the only issues are dead parking (and side marker) bulbs. Unfortunately, the only light considered "user replaceable" in that assembly is the turn signal. I've never owned a car that didn't have easily replaceable headlights! I have an appointment scheduled for Monday at the dealer, and hopefully they will replace all the bulbs for free since I bought the car with the bulbs already dead (at this point one fog, both parking, and one side marker are all dead).

My one remaining question is, since the only function of the large amber bulb is to flash for the turn signal, why is it dual filament?

EDIT: Another question. On a model with the spoiler, are there any lights there, or is the lens simply a reflector?

Thanks for the input!

I wanted to ask you Mazda experts about why so many bulbs are dead. Could there be an electrical problem of some kind? That seems very unlikely to me, but just wanted to make sure. Like I said, the dealer is going to look it over, but I'd love to cancel it and just replace the bulbs myself.

If you count the two bulbs the dealer replaced, this is what was dead when I bought it:

- One low-beam headlight
- One foglight
- One front side-marker light
- Both front parking lights
- One tail/brake light
- One licence plate light

Is this just the case of a neglectful previous owner (it's a one owner car), or is it possible something more serious is going on?

I appreciate your input, MonoxideChild. Thanks!

Does anyone else also have an opinion on this issue? If it's a electrical system problem, the dealer needs to look at it (bumper-to-bumper warranty plan). If it's just the light bulbs, I can easily do that myself. Thanks!

When I got my used 2005 Mazda 6i 3 years ago both fogs, both front parking lights, and the side markers were all out. I changed them all myself, and haven't had them go out again yet. They are all pretty easy to change. If you replace them and the blow again shortly after, then I'd say you might have a problem... but I'm thinking the bulbs just reached the end of their lifespan lol.

Here's a walkthrough on changing those bulbs:
