Hello,
Got a question... my drivers side windshield wiper was squeaking like crazy even in hard rain, so I replaced it, but the new wiper is still squeaking just as much. It squeaks so much as it's going across the windshield that it's driving me insane Is there a tension setting how hard the wiper is against the windshield? I think it may be pressing too hard against the windshield because as the wiper is going, I can see the bottom of it is "skippy" and causing the squeegy sound. Thanks in advance! |

What brand of wiper did you just recently purchase? If it's a cheap brand, then it might still cause the streaking sound.
Secondly, is your windshield dirty? There are many combinations on why your wiper makes that streaking sound. But I don't think you can adjust the spring tension though.

My windshield is pretty clean and I don't think I purchased a cheap wiper blade.
UCLeadGuitar - The windshield wipers that I had before the current ones which are still streaking were RainX. Did the previous RainX wipers put some kind of residue on my windshield that I need to get rid of? Thanks! |

I just replaced mine (after a freaking 30K miles!) and they squeak like a mofo. What he was referring to was putting actual rain-x on the exterior of the windshield itself. That causes most wipers to squeak because of the layer. I haven't applied rainx in about 4-5 months, so added it might make them squeek ever worse until it gets worn down a tad. Many wiper refills will squeek though, just have to deal with it until they get worn (broken in so to speak.)

My windshield wipers do the same thing. They "skip" as they are wiping. It happened on 2 mazda 6's that I owned.

Same here.
I have tried 3 different brands, the cheapest ones work the best! Even those tend to skip until it is raining hard. If if is just drizzling, I just have to put up with the skipping.

I had the same problem on my 6 also, and what i did was bend the wiper arm slightly up and that seemed to help a lot. It took a little pressure off the window and stopped the chaddering.

RAINEX should come with warning labels...I used that crap in 1994 and have never forgotten the horror of that complete crap...as far as I am concearned it NEVER went away...meaning the skipping squeaking windshild wipers...I was so upset...and that was 11 years ago!!! I would buy no Rainex product for any reason...

These are very expensive, but the folks at the Volvo Cross Country forum swear by them. At $40 each I am hoping someone will do the R&D for me.
