Automatic Transaxle Warning Light On

I was driving slowly on a muddy road when suddenly I felt a shake like my car was being rear-ended. Immediately after the shake, the automatic transaxle warning light (the one that says "AT") went on for a a second or two, then it went off. Anybody has experienced this or knows why? The car drove fine afterwards though. :sarc

I did not think we had a "AT" warning light. Maybe it was your Traction Control System activating?

When mine does, the car shudders and the "TC" light on the dash comes on for a moment.

If the automatic transaxle warning
light flashes, the transaxle has an
electrical problem. Continuing to drive
your Mazda in this condition could
cause damage to your transaxle.
Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer
as soon as possible.

I do have a AT warning light just as it says on page 5-33 in the owner's manual. I am sure it was not the TCS since I turned it off after I started my car.

But it did not flash. It stayed on for two seconds tops and it went off. It never went on again on my way home this afternoon.

Normally the light is accompanied by a cel which stays on. I wish you guys would create a signature or be a little more descriptive about your cars when describing a problem. Is it a 6s or I? It matters because some folks with the 6s have had the light come on and then go off after restarting their cars, never to see it again. Or they've taken it in to the dealer who either reset the computer or updated it. If you see this light, the first thing you should do is pull off to the side and shut the motor off. If the light is still on after restarting the car or come on after a while then take it ASAP to the dealer. It wouldn't hurt to check the tranny fluid level and condition either.

It's a 6i AT. The CEL never went on and I just had the computer updated in May while my car was in the shop for a collision. The car runs fine right now though.

I just had this happen to me yesterday. 2004 6s with around 900m on it. I was making a right turn and accelerating, the road was a little wet and I saw the AT light come on but it went off so fast I wasn't sure what light it was. Later I figured it out to be the AT light. I would love to know the reason/severity of this. Is this just another quirk of the atx?

Wagner Header'd! and enjoying it!

The AT light in my car has reared its ugly head a couple of times, usually only for a few seconds and then it stays off. The funny thing is that it has only happened with this tranny. Even when my first tranny failed, the AT light never came on. Oh, and despite all the problems I have had with this car, my CEL has never come on.

This was probably the Traction Control light. It flashes when the TCS engages.
