Default Double-din Radio Install Kit from EBAY

I had posted this in another thread about an entire radio unit on ebay but thought I would post it in it's own thread so it didn't get lost. I know when I was trying to research double-din options there wasn't much out there... so what little info I can offer will hopefully help someone... If you have any questions about something I may have forgot to mention just ask... Here is my original post:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I installed this ebay kit today... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mazda-6-Radi...item5ae986e0f7

the install isn't complete as I plan to get the 2006 shifter console and cup holder to match the kit... and a few other touch up... this is a quick pic I took when I powered it up today...

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink

A few notes about the kit...

- It completely disables the information display... other then the back light coming on and off it doesn't show any information...

- All climate controls work as designed, although the buttons aren't as nice as the OEM ones... we'll see how they hold up.

- The climate control lights are a little weak compared to OEM...

- Wiring was straight forward, basically match colors for the radio wires and the shapes of the harnesses to the car... no instructions were provided

- The brackets that hold the radio are plastic but seem to be holding up well...

- It came with a trim ring that fills the small gap around the radio that mounts from the inside of the kit... I ran into an issue with using the ring that it made the radio sit in farther then I liked AND made the holes on the brackets not line up...

- When the brackets were installed on the radio they were wider then where they were meant to mount to the kit... not by much... but enough..

How I fixed those two issues...

I mounted the brackets to the radio and slowly drilled out each mount hole and guide hole until the radio sat in the opening where I like it... I only showed a gap at the top and the bottom of the radio because the brackets filled in the sides... I cut the trim ring they supplied and simply glued it to the kit on the top and bottom of the radio...

Overall I'm 90% satisfied with the kit... I got it for $175 free shipping through the "make an offer" option... and it arrived quickly... There really aren't many options as you all know... so overall I would recommend it if you don't mind loosing your display...
