Default FORD and MAZDA

This topic come about quite a bit in a few threads, especially ones I tend to start.

I happen to work for a Ford dealer, and drive a Mazda lol.

Alot of people either don't know, or refuse to see that Ford and Mazda are till essentially the same, except for looks obviously.

I figured it'd be cool to start a good, clean debate thread.

I remember arguing with a friend that his MS6 was a fusion... he didnt like me calling it similar to a ford product.. was quite funny seeing his face face when he saw FoMoCo on the calipers when he went to change the brakes.. and even better when he saw FoMoCo on the dipstick when I did his oil change

Now with the new CX5, its almost identical to the new Escape, just doesn't use the same motor. There is ONE article from AutoBlog that states the two share no parts at all... I really beg to differ, and almost guarantee that the motor is of a Ford design..

let the debate begin

You think the new sky active motor was designed by Ford? Do you have any proof of that claim? The MS6 engine was designed by Mazda. Ford had rights to sell MZR branded engines hence some of the Fomoco parts back from when they were working together. Their partnership was from the late 70's and ended in 2010.

Default FORD and MAZDA

Mazda had recently bought back all the remaining shares that Ford had which is why we haven't seen a V6 of the new generation 6 (which was indeed a brother car of the fusion, not the MS6), and which is also why they developed the new skyactiv. Like said above, the MZR was engineered in Hiroshima.

So, whenever someone says that Mazda and Ford are the same company I laugh and tell them they're misinformed. Ford did indeed buy a large amount of shares previously to help the company out and did indeed work together, but they were never the same company. The FD3S... Miata... MS6/3... All Mazda. All imports.

I don't see why everyone is upset about their car supposedly being associated with Ford anyways. Have they ever taken a test drive in a Mustang 5.0?!

These are all correct, and there is no debate.

Back to this thinking again?

Last I heard, Ford owned 1/3 of Mazda and that was shortly after the bail out.
I hope the drive train in my Sport Wagon was made by Ford cause I'll never take it back to a Mazda Dealership.

lol...there isn't any "platform sharing" between the two companies any longer. Some people remember back to Ford Probe/Mazda MX-6 days and think it is still going on. It is not. Ford has less than a 5% share in Mazda these days and this does NOT include anything more than 'technology sharing'.

Mazda is a very, very small player globally. One can hope the new SKYACTIV diesel powered cars will get them into markets they aren't in yet.

I know my M6 has alot of FoMoCo all over it.. but the MZR is a MAZDA engine. I know the Protege5 was made 100% in Japan and I think the MSP was as well.

I don't care what is what I just prefer my cars being assembled in Japan instead of America... We don't have the best "control/tolerance" like the Japan manufactures do.
