So I've been searching for a lightweight 17x8 wheel, so let me first state, if anyone knows of any nice, not so expensive lightweight 17x8s let me know.

But on to the main reason of this thread. I've targeted some Kosei K-1 TS wheels since they are by far the lightest wheels I can find.

For the background of this wheel it is:

Offset: 50mm
Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3
Recommended Tire Size: 215/50-17
Weight: 13.7lbs
Price: $196.00 per wheel (According to TireRack.com)

I have a Liquid Platinum Metallic MazdaSpeed6, would Light Grey Painted or Silver Painted look better?

Light Grey Painted

Silver Painted

Also, what do most of you guys recommend for tires? I was looking at 215/50ZR17 XL Continental ContiSportContact 3 Blackwall. They have great reveiws but they are at a high price on TireRack.com of $184.00 each tire.

If you have info on any other type of lightweight wheel that is less than or equal to the weight of these LMK! (and of course they can be a little heavier if they are wider)

I have the 18" kosei k-1 TS and i love them!

I love my stockers too much to change... But if I were going with those wheels, I'd go with the light gray hands down. It amplifies the slightly dark grayish touch that exists in the Liquid Platinum paint. It'll definitely bring out more of the gray, while the silver will just be too bright in my opinion and make your cars color look 'off'

For tires, I'm a big advocate of Falken Azenis RT-615s 5.gif in a 225 width, at least on a 7 inch wheel. They have insane performance, last pretty well, and aren't so pricey either! Oh and very stiff sidewalls for amazing handling and response!

That just makes me want these wheels that much more, the only thing I'm worried about is these aren't forged. Meaning AVOID POTHOLES AT ALL COSTS!!! but that's cool, it'll enhance me trying to drive slow on regular roads therefore better gas mileage.

And Boost Addict, that was exactly the responce I needed, thank you MUCHO much! So you say 225 width, I'll definitely look into those tires.

Added: On the Falken Azenis RT-615s, I can't find any Z rated. What website should I look at, or is it even available as a Z rate?

Should the 225/45R17 be fine though?

Silver would be better

+1 for the gray

Curious why your looking at the17's?

+1 for the light grey, for the reasons that Boost Addict already stated

+1 as to why you're looking at 17's. Simply less weight?

Call tirerack up. They have 17x8s available but they'll hassle you about it not fitting your car and blah blah blah because they don't want to be held liable or just want to be a bunch of dicks (usually the latter)

If you can get the 17x8, get a tire in 235/45. Otherwise, consider 225/50/17 for the 17x7. You're looking at Max Performance Summer tires with the Contisportcontact 3 (fuck continental has the worst tire names) which leads me to believe you really, really enjoy grip, lol. In that case, I'll recommend the Hankook RS-2 Z212 or Falken Azenis RT-615s. Either tire is flippin excellent in terms of grip and nearly half the price of the majority of those max performance summer tires.

There are always comparable (if not better) tires at lower cost. If you can save $320 by switching to a different tire like the Z212 or RT-615, by all means, do it.

I'm definitely gonna get the light grey ones.

As far as why 17s, as what RhoadBlock was asking, yes less weight.
Performance over looks, but still look good.

Thank you much, I'm gonna give them a call as soon as I have cash in hand for new wheels and tires, I'm guessing $2000 should cover everything.

Like I said, they'll give you hell because they'll ask what car and say it won't fit, blah blah blah. If they give you too much shit, give the guys at Tireswap a call and see if they have the Kosei's in 17x8.

I got the 17x8 Kosei's from Tirerack. The offset isn't bad, but will need fender rolling in the rears. I only rub on hard drops and bumps, but not on the track.

As Biz said, they'll hassle you but just say that you have done the measurements and will take any responsibility for fitment issues. My total with a set of General UHP's was around $1200 USD.

I got the silver painted but wish I had gone with the grey's. They both look equally "ok" but the lack of gloss or shine on the wheels clash a little with the body paint.

Note : you lose a bit of MPG with 8" width tires, not really noticeable on a per-tank basis, but it will be over time. Also, the 17x8's are about 17 lbs. compared to 13 lbs for the 7" wide ones.

I think I'm gonna go with the 17x7s I don't wanna fender roll just yet. They are cheap and light, just like I like it ;p

I bent one of my Kosei's once, but I hit a HUGE pothole on the parkway the day of the Wayne Mazda Meet little over a year ago. Since then I have gotten the bend fixed and they have been fine ever since then.

who has the best deal on these rims now?
