I have searched for a looooong time now for the perfect set of wheels, and have narrowed it down to 3 choices...
My car is silver w/ sports package, smoked euro tails, clear sides, and soon speed hatch springs. I want to use my 17 inch Dunlops I just bought, so I'm sticking with 17 inch wheels.

go with the kosei's. 13.7 is really light and they look decent too.

From what I've read from you so far about wheels, you are more into performance and functionality...So for you, I say the Kosei's...That 13.7lb weight will be awesome.
But I like the way the ASA's look compared to the others.

i would scrap the asa (too much going on in the rim) and go for the performance factor like achow mentioned. 13lbs compared to the 20 some lbs that are stock is going to definitely make a huge difference. overall, whether you may like another set more for the looks, but with the kosei, you will fall more in love with them bc of the difference you will feel. im not saying the difference will be like comparing stewie griffin in size to peter griffin but you will take notice and be glad down the line that you went with the kosei. just my .02

I'll go against the other comments and suggest the Rota's.
If the tires you have are a larger size than your OEM's, the .5" wider wheel is going to be a help, along with the milder offset in giving you a wider tire footprint as well as a slightly wider track, all good things for handling. Even with stock sized tires the extra width will let them "fill out" a little more.
I"m running 17"x7.5"/48 Rota Subzero's with 225/45x17 Potenza RE-01R's on my 6s and they don't come close to rubbing with a very mild lowering from RB springs, so you should be OK there.
Yes, they're a little heavier than the Kosei's, but lighter than the ASA's.
Just one man's opinion.

Torque if only because you have the extra half inch of width. 225's will fit better on that than just a 7" wide wheel.

yep....actually a 225 SHOULD be mounted on a 7.5" rim

I'd pick the ASAs if looks were more important than weight.

ew asa's.. only bbs can pull that style off, rotas look nice but bootleg jdm's they cant even come up with their own style?????... so yea i voted for #3, great price, light weight... overall nice and good looking too

Mar 20 2008, 05:15 PM
i vote rotas, not because i had it, but asa= 21lbs?!?!? my 18' zigens are 22lbs.
i didn't know asa's are that heavy
and i think rotas look little better than kosei's on a silver 6, it goes very well with our glacier silver.
and yes 225's fit on 7.5 width. i was using 225/45 on mine.

Yep, the 7in width would be the best reason to NOT go with the Kosei's...So it's kind of a toss up between the 2 of those.

curious, looking at Rota info I don't see a 7.5" wide rim with the proper bolt pattern for the 6, only the 100mm which won't fit. There is an 8" rim with the 114.3 bolt pattern and a 49mm offset though.

My vote is for the Torques... you get looks and performance. Its 18lbs which pretty good, and I think the look is more modern. Those Kosei's are lightweight, but honestly, the design looks dated and old school to me...

You will break a 13.7lb wheel that is that cheap at some point by daily driving. Some where in BFE, you'll hit a pot hole and that wheel will leave you stranded. Buy that wheel for track day, get the Rota for everyday.

If you have a link to somewhere that's marketing them, I'd love to check it out as I'm quite interested in those wheels myself. I tried several different places and every one of them had only a 17x8 in the 114.3 bolt circle, there were 17x7.5's listed but they were all 100mm bolt circles.

You can have cheap.
You can have light.
You can have quality.
You cant have all three. I'll leave it at that. #2 FTW.

Ditch wheel C. I think they would look bad on the car. I like the open spoke design but the kosei's are for rice rockets not Mazda's. Civic=Yes...Mazda=NO!!. Wheels A and B are great and stick with them. Get that car dropped after you get the wheels. Then camber correctly!!!!!!! You should really check out the Helo Tease in black. That is a sick wheel!!! probably going with choice B so I can get the best of both worlds, but those kosei's are so damn light!

A = ugly
B = nice but plain
C = track weight rims at one hell of a price; they also are ultra sexy!

I don't like any of them.
A - The ASAs, as most people have already said, just plain suck.
B - I don't like the look of the Rotas.
C - Would be the best choice if it wasn't only 7" wide.
If I had to choose between those 3 I'd take the Koseis, but 7" wide is kind of useless, it's the same size as stock.

I have option "C" on my car now, but in 18" X 7.5".
There are quite a few members on this board rolling with these wheels. Hell, I bought mine used from a member.
They are light and they are the best looking out of those options. Are they prone to breaking? I'm sure they are, just as all wheels are. Avoid pot holes and you should be okay. I've had mine on a good while and I've had no problems.
The center caps that come w/ the wheel are puke though, so I roll w/ my rusty hubs exposed.

Even though most of the votes are for the Kosei's, I think I'm going to go with the Rota Torques, simply because they ARE a few pounds lighter than stock, while they also match the color scheme I'm going for.

I'm definitely saying Kosei's but my vote will go for the K3 instead, it's a better style for about the same weight but go with a 45 offset at least, but 42 would look best and just give it a roll...mucho hot!!

yea, but it's 17lbs, vs. the k1's 13.7

I like the K1 and if you're running a stock tire on them they should have a decent amount of protection from damage.

"kosei's are for rice rockets"??? Wow what an idiot.
Option A? ASA is such a shitty brand its not even funny, its just going to make your car look really cheap.
Koseis are obviously for the tunner look or track use. I don't see why you'd say its for Rice rockets. I'd consider the ASA more as a "Yeah I was to poor to buy nice rims so I just bought black rims with a polished lip"
Also people wondering why the ASA weighs so much....Talk about shit quality.
To the thread maker please don't cheap on your Mazda and actually buy something nice. If I was to pick I'd obviously pick Kosei. I don't even like Rotas to much...Heard bad stuff about em being very weak and Rotas are known for replicas. If anything look into Drag, Advan, Enkei, Tenzo, VOLKS, or OZ wheels. I mean c'mon so much better companies to choose from.

They all look like a PITA to clean, but given a choice between those
three, I'd say..... (B). I feel your pain, it's tough to decide. (A) is too busy.
[C] is too dark in color for me.....Gunmetal looks better on darker cars IMHO.
