Full Version: Lug Nut Question for the Forged Mazdaspeed Wheel

I just picked a set of 4 used Mazdaspeed Lightweight forged wheels from MiltwonSHO. Unfortunately, they didn't come with lug nuts. I know if you buy a brand new set they come included.

Does anyone know what type of lug nuts will work with these set of wheels? Tuner type skinny? Conical (bulge) or Acorn? I think conical, right?

I know the size 12mm x 1.50. Should I use the OE lugs? I, currently, have on my MS6, Kazeras which use a taper/shank (I thnk and probably don't work)

I was thinking of getting black chrome lugs. I painted my calibers red but not else on the exterior is red.

Is it worth it to get Gorrilla? Muteki? Any other brands worth looking at (but not too expensive)? I am interested in splined or heptogonal(sp?)

I'm planning for the new wheels next year so I am gaathering everything up. Any information is greatly appreciated. I searched "lug nut" and read for about an hour.

Thanks in advanced.

I'm rocking the McGards on my RX8 wheels and I love the shit out them. They're just sort of expensive.

What he said lol.

But I use ebay ones that have worked for at least 2 years. I needed it in a pinch so I went that route. But I wanted gorillas. I think the next set would be conical gorrilas. I had other tuners that weren't and they rusted in one season. Not in snow either.

Oh and you can use the acorns, but I wouldn't recommend it because that may cause you to scratch your "new to you" rims. lol

I got a set of rays. Super light. Not sure what is better, but your wheels are rays, why not go with rays lugs? Got them for like 130 from driveline motoring where I got my new wheels.

Good point!! cough, cough, a little steep but you have a good point. I will take this under consideration. Thanks.

ya, but the weight of these things is amazingly light and they will keep there value compared to other less expensive options. Your rims cost $2000 new so think about it, but you only paid $900 so...if it were me I would likely go with a $50 set on ebay like these:

I have a set like those that came with another set of rims. I am using them for my winter wheels.

I took your advice and found Rays for $114 from evo8.com. How does key lock work? I see the heptagonal for the lugs and a slot for key. Thanks.

Nice. I exchanged a $50 KYOKUGEN set from driveline so it was a good deal for me. The key is a heptagonal with slot. If anyone wants thr rims bad enough they can get them. You just bang a socket that is supper tight on that key and you will be able to turn it. Even the smooth OEM keys I banged my 19mm a socket on and got it off. So just be careful wher eyou park and change it up often if needed.

Slight change of plans. Going with Gunmetal Rays. Due sometime next month.

I don't see how a few grams difference in the wheel nuts is significant. It's definitely not worth the cost. That being said, I do have a set of Ray's wheel nuts, for specific reasons though.
