Full Version: Anyone put 18" MazdaSpeed6 wheels on a regular 6?

I'm looking at new 17" or 18" wheels for summer use, and am leaning towards the optional 2007 MS6 18" wheels, which are 7.5" wide, and call for a tire size of 215/45R18. Anyone put those on a 2008 Mazda6? I have a 5-door, in Volcanic Red.

Here are the wheels.

Would you mind telling me what I did incorrectly, instead of a generic admonishment that's overkill? I spent over an hour searching and reading the forums and could not find any posting or a picture from someone has mounted those particular wheels on a regular Mazda 6 -- I saw other MS6 wheels, but not those optional wheels, which is why I asked the question. Perhaps I missed something, but there are hundreds of postings that did something far "worse." And if it was the picture, I changed the hotlink to the official Mazda site's image to a clickable link. I could find nothing on the forum's rules about linking to manufacturer sites, only to competitors' sites and to commercial retail sales sites who are not sponsors.

I'd ask you directly, but the forum doesn't permit me to send PMs with a low posting count.

You did nothing wrong, you just didn't look in the right places. I remember many many threads that had "show us your wheels" and seen these wheels on many times as well. If you did something wrong I would have just let you know. Its Friday, its the interwebs, just chill and read the threads.

Bottom line, buy them if you have the money to burn. They are really nice wheels, just too rich for my blood. As for the size? Well again, search the threads, and you will find various opinions on 17" vs 18", in regards to anywhere from gas mileage to looks of the car.

Now if you get a tire that is low in profile, you'll need to lower your car to compensate for the gap. Now that's another thread topic altogether.

Now go out and have a drink (be alcoholic or non) and relax, its the weekend.

The local Mazdaspeed dealer checked on these for me, and the latest Mazda's parts charts show they cannot be used on the 2008 Sedan and 5-Door. They can be used on the 2007 and earlier. The parts expert checked various axle and suspension parts and cannot see a difference between the 2007 and 2008 parts. Does anyone know if there was a change in the suspension, brakes, etc. that makes a difference with wheel fitment on those models?
Business
No, there wasn't a change. Any suspension component will fit the same from year to year, as will wheels and pretty much everything else.

They fit, don't worry. The tyre size mentioned will fit despite being fat because the newer 6's stock height will easily allow for it. I would be worrying more about offset rather than size in this case but those wheels are subtle when it comes to offset.

If you are worried, maybe you can organise to test fit them with a dealership. You will be surprised how nice some places are.

edit:.....dammit business

Here a screen shot of a hub spacer for Model year 2003-2008 mazda6 to give visual confirmation just in case OP needs pic. to visually verify post info. in this thread. MS6 wheels will work

The dealer that said it couldn't work got his head up his ass.

Well, it isn't his fault. This was a good parts guy, who looked up the wheel and showed me a chart from Mazda (it's a dealer-only site I can't access). The fit chart for the wheels showed that these wheels were not compatible. The earlier years were listed as OK. I sent Mazda an e-mail note, and the response was bizzarre: it was about TIRES, and not wheels, and said they don't recommend any tires or wheels other than the OEM stuff! Mazda's own public site shows the wheels as "blue" warranty-compatible, but they do have mistakes, such as the Mazdaspeed spring sets which are not really for the 5-door, 4-cyl. version of the car.

Thanks for the help. I have a while to find the right wheels & tires for the spring/summer, as I just put winter tires on the stock 17" wheels. Most of the wheels I like end seem to have 7-spoke or 10-spoke designs similar to these wheels and similar prices...

i dont understand why someone would pay so much for those wheels, when there are much better options available....
