OK, so like most who had 2nd gear always pop out on them after a while of banging gears, I had concerns and I don't need to describe the symptoms. It didn't take long to get tired of tightly holding the lever back while off the gas in 2nd. Not to mention, I'm driving out to Arizona in a week and the last thing I need is transmission issues! So after I looked up the local Mazda dealers nearest where I've been staying temporarily on Cape Cod, I found the nearest dealer was about a 25 minute drive away in Hyannis. However after reading people's horror stories about warranty denials, I went to the nearest MazdaSPEED dealer which was 20 extra minutes away in the other direction near New Bedford. I can honestly say without even knowing anything about the Mazda in Hyannis, that I made the right decision. I stopped by on a Saturday to have the car looked at. Their solution was of course a new transmission. I dropped the car off the next Thursday morning and picked up my rental Taurus (which is lucky to have received minimal abuse!). The next afternoon the car was ready to be picked up, however I'd let the lady in service know the day before that I had to be on Martha's Vineyard (one of the islands) all day for work and wouldn't be able to make it back in time. So Saturday (today) I picked it up and without even an ounce of drama regarding the warranty. I don't have much for go-fast mods, only an AEM CAI, 2.5" test-pipe, and DSM BOV. I don't know if being an ms dealer, they're the only ones certified or even allowed to replace a speed-specific part like this, but I certainly think it made them more accommodating to my warranty claim. They even covered my rental for the extra day and a half. They never even asked if I drive it hard or anything that didn't pertain only to what had to be done to fix everything. I'm sure they found some kind of metal filings in the transmission pan; I'd grind on occasion skipping gears into 6th more than anything else, but again, never an implication of abuse. The only negative out of this is that I won't have the same folks out in Arizona throughout the rest of my warranty. I strongly urge any owners in New England who have had warranty struggles to check these guys out.

O'Hara Mazda did a great job on my high-pressure fuel pump as well, they seem to be a top-notch dealership.

O'Hara Mazda in Fairhaven is the closest dealership to the Cape. I bought my Speed6 there. As for service at O'Hara, I've found them to be very customer oriented as well.

The Mazda dealer in Hyannis has been gone for a couple of years. And based on my experience with them, good riddance.

why are you comin to AZ? what part you coming to? are you moving or just traveling?

we have some pretty good dealers, depending on where you are coming...phoenix, pretty good dealer service, i recommend 2, possibly 3. berge (in mesa) and biddulph mazda (in peoria) for sure.

as far as tucson...as borat would say "eeeeh nat so mush"...jim click runs a bit of a monopoly since they are the only two dealers in tucson.

This is only the 2nd thread i have rad about someone having trannie problems. I wonder if this is going to become more popular in the coming years. I basically had the same thing happen to me and they also are replacing the 2nd gear and some other things inside the trannie. The mechanic also noticed some 3rd gear problems and is replacing it as well. All covered under warranty (I am also in a rental car a Nissan Sentra, a real piece of crap with one of those Variable shifting trannies, needless to say it's a dog). They still have my car and have had it for a week as of today.

I'm in GA and only have a CAI so no problems here either.

Isaac
That doesn't make sense that they'd piece-meal it like that when they can replace the entire thing under warranty and keep your car down for only a day and a half, hopefully preventing further visits, and saving them rental car costs.

Isaac thats what I thought as well, but it's warranty work so I tried not to complain too much. I would have thought it would be simpler and more cost expensive as well but I guess Mazda Motors thought otherwise (imagine that Mazda actually making a logical decision). I know one thing though; the Nissan Sentra I am driving sucks ass!
Isaac
You shouldn't take it laying down or they can and will just walk over you. Like how they give you a sissy Sentra instead of a comparable-size car for example.

Mine is going in soon for the same 2nd gear trans issue.
I had this problem early on as well and they replaced the trans.

I usually end up with a smoking CX-7 as a loaner!

I'll look into it. I'm moving out there to be closer to my family who has been gradually migrating from various points in New England to Prescott. But it seems that for my line of work, I may be limited to having to move to the east valley to make any money...

While we're on the O'Hara Mazda topic, my car will be going back to them tomorrow for a new transfer case and rear diff seals.

I saw the leak on the rear diff and brought it in, they inspected the car close enough to notice a leak from the transfer case as well.
