So it all started Saturday , went to Discount tire to buy some tires I put a deposit on some Yokohama S.Drives. Then come Monday went back up there to put them on my speed6 wheels come to find out that they shipped them to another store that morning and would give me some bridgestone Potenza's for the same price, they say that it was a better street tire. They where both 225/40/18, I just want to know which tire is better because i have a feeling that they are covering up someone's else's mistake because of the price they were going to sell the Yokohama's at. Anybody think i got jipped?

There's a few different Potenza's. Which one's are they trying to give you? If it's the 960 Pole Positions, they were one of the most highly rated tires I could find when I was researching. The Yokohama S Drive, however, were equally rated. There's about a $40 price difference between the two with the Potenza's being more expensive. They used to be going for about $200 a piece a few months ago. I honestly think either way you would be getting a very very good tire so it all comes down to personal choice. Of course, this is assuming it is the 960 Pole Position's they were trying to swap them for.


EDIT: The Pole Positions also have a better tread wear rating, just FYI.

ya they are Pole positions RE960as 225/40/18.

In the '960AS model designation, the AS stands for all-season. The Yokohama S.drive is a real tire; the '960As plays in the junior league. Unless you want traction in light, unpacked snow, the S.drive is the clear choice. Most all-season tires have higher wear rating because of the profile of the buyer to whom the tire is marketed.

I would prefer the S.drives because they're a summer tire. But they're not really ripping you off, the 960AS Pole Position is quite a bit more expensive.

Lol...I already knew your stance on all season tires before I even posted. You're actually the reason I'm looking to buy some high performance summer tires (such as the S.Drive). I was just pointing out some things to the OP. I wasn't recommending one over the other.

i have the s. drives on my car and i have to say they r a amazing tire! The rep at my tire shop said they are better than the ADVAN's (Yokohama's flagship tires) because they have all the new technologies in them! I have to say i agree they grip like mad crazy, i toke a corner a 90 degree corner at 45 miles an hour and the car didnt even slip and the tires didnt even make a sound! The tires are also super quite and tread wear is good! i have about 7,000 miles on them and they look almost brand new! I would definitely get the S.drives if i were you!

The S.drive is a junior version of the ADVAN Sport. The ADVAN Sport is a marginally better tire for performance, and the S.drive has a higher wear index (and also a more affordable price). The ADVAN Sport, with an asymmetric tread pattern, is rotatable, while the S.drive, with a directional tread pattern, cannot be rotated from one side to the other without dismounting from the wheel and remounting in the other direction. The technology -- primarily the compound formulation -- is at least as advanced in the ADVAN Sport as in the S.drive. However, the ADVAN Neova, a very different ADVAN tire, is a different kettle of fish from either the ADVAN Sport or the S.drive. The Neova is not an all-purpose tire, but is designed for high temperature driving; it is a kind of street-legal racing tire.

I wouldn't quite go that far. They're more along the lines of the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01Rs. But they're nowhere near what a street legal racing tire like the A048s are.
