Default 04 M6 Cupholder LED mod

Hiya!

I've seen a few cupholder LED mods with switches and such, however I made my own modification which suited me:

As you can see in the video, it's a very simple construction with a reed switch and a magnet.

The reed switch itself was purchased on ebay: 1 White Recessed Door Window Alarm Contacts Reed Switch | eBay

The magnet that came along was too big, so I got myself a very tiny, and strong, rare earth magnet: Super Strong Disc Round RARE Earth Neodymium Magnets 10x1mm N35 Craft Model | eBay

Along with a set of 5050 LED strips: 12V 1M 60leds 5050 SMD Waterproof Red LED Strips Light Black PCB for Car Home | eBay

I like to have everything "automated". I don't like pressing switches and such, therefor this setup suits me the absolute best.

All in all, I'm very happy with the result

The 04 came with the lid thing for the cup holders?
Or did you do that yourself?

Yea, pre-facelift, as well as speed6's, have the flippy cupholder cover, as well as a similar ashtray cover.

Those don't happen to be interchangeable with face swapped models?
And that mod looks great!
I'd do it if its swappable!

There is no reason why you shouldnt be able to swap that piece out @Knupsel.

this is interchangeable. We had some issues with fitment, as there was a gap.

Best way I've seen this one done. Although I think I'd still like to have it on some kind of a switch, I like it dark when driving at night, and I keep my iPod/phone in the cup holders if I have a drink in one.

Thanks! Yeah I was thinking about installing some type of on/off switch as I might want to turn it off sometimes while the lid is still open.

Thanks for the comments fellas!
