Interior painting (door panels)

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has painting their door panels. I have the tan interior and I am thinking about painting the (lower) tan plastis to a glossy ish black or just straight black. I went to the paint store today and he told me what to get, but i figured i'd check to see what y'all have done. Thanks

I am contemplating this also since I am currently and eternally in the state of reupholstering the fabric on my door panels. Its a tough project to get right the first time but I feel I am getting close to completion. Traveling for work is really preventing me from putting in the hours on this but I have a few days off and will attempt to get a tutorial whipped up in the next few days. Stay posted.

YES! I was looking into reupholstering the tan fabric but its riveted in the door panel and i dont have any idea how to get it off/on and still making it look clean, i have had the arm rest area(plastic rubber) of the door painted black with special shit for plastic which has held up in the heat and rubbing, so im debating on using the same paint for the harder plastic.

Yes I have redone the entire door. Originally had the gray lower section and wanted black. I also put black suede on the inserts as well. You can use a dremel to grind off the plastic rivets and then you can tap and get screws to hold it back together. Some have used plastic glue to re-seal. As for painting prep is your key since you won't be sanding. I used SEM matte black. It is designed for cars and is a high quality and close to OEM black so it matches the top of the door. Get platic prep and adhesion promoter to help. Take your time and it will turn out like factory.

Is SEM the brand? and do you recommend and specific brands for the adhesion?
If you have pics of the cans or whatever you used that would be great and can give me an idea of what to look for as I only went to the paint store and he told me a few off the top of his head, I want it to match like you said to look OEM

its been a while since I have had to purchase them, i usually stock up, dont quote me on this but i believe its like 9-11 a can.
