Lights in speaker Grilles

I was thinking about putting some lights in my speaker grilles that will light up when the bass hits. I'm not sure if you will be able to see it in the non bose grilles though. And if doing it, i'm not sure what type of lights to use, cathodes or LED strips. I have red cathodes under the dash and was probably going to go with blue to add some contrast and make it more noticeable. Let me know what you think and what light source would look best as well as the color.
