I've been working on cars since I was in college. I've done some serious work, but this has me at a total loss.
To make a long story short, I had to remove the seat back of my driver seat last night (I had a bad spring inside). I ran into some trouble putting it back in. Here's the problem. I've put 2 of the bolts in that hold the back of the seat to the seat rails. There's 4 total. As I turn the other two bolts (the ones towards the front of the car), they seem to pop back out again. They start to go in, feel really tight about halfway in, then I feel a "bump" and they go loose. The two rear bolts are in solid, which is good. The ones towards the front of the car seem to have this problem. I put some makeshift nut and bolts in there to hold things together for now. However, my seat is now at a funny angle and I need to get those original 14mm's back in. This is really crazy. I just can't seem to get this bolt in! Tips? Suggestions? Anyone in the DC area want to help? Hammer? Blow torch? Air Wrench? Different order of install? Totally out of the box thought? What should I try? I'm going on a 7 hour trip on Thursday and need to get this right before hand. Some clarifications: These are not the bolts under the seat, they go in on either side of the seat back, and attach to the reclining mechanism in the seat rail. |

It sucks to tell you, but the bolt is stipped or the thread hole is damaged.
This can happen when the bolt does not sit streight and you torque the bolt. You will have to by a threading tool and make new thread for a differnet size bolt. QUOTE (osajek @ Jul 28 2009, 09:23 AM) Quote:

Could also be washers. I had the same problem a few months back... apparently threads @ the end of the bolt would just stop causing it to go loose again. Then I realized it had a washer... tried it again.. perfect fit.
This may be long shot ... but hey, sounds like you'll try anything right about now.
