Just bought a 2004 Mazda 6 that was a rental, and it shows. I only paid 5,800 for it though, so i've got some money to spend on it.
I was really wanting to know if anyone has ever repainted the silver center console area and around the automatic shifter. I've done this in other cars in the past and it turned out fine. Let me know what you think.
Also i'm looking for some parts, I know this isn't the place to post it, but since you're reading anyways...
Need a power tan cloth drivers seat
the reflector in the rear bumper (drivers side)
any stock wheels and tires in decent shape
Factory Tan floor mats. Don't care how dirty, I own a detail shop.
A white spoiler, Probably just going to get a lip spoiler off ebay
And a stock grille if it's cheap enough

Just bought an ashtray with the trim around it and it came with a grey manual shifter boot and knob that i don't need, if anyone's interested.

If you're looking for the chrome stock grille, pictured here, I can sell you mine for $45 + shipping. It's in very good condition. I might have the rear bumper reflector too somewhere, but I'd have to look for it. I think I melted one of them it in an experiment to see if the reflectors could be opened by baking. I now know that they can't.

How much are you looking to spend on the wheels? I'm looking to upgrade mine, there stock of a 2007, no curb scrapes, look like new. Tires are also in great shape with lots of tread. only 17k miles on them, Michelin.

P.M. sent your way.

As for painting your center console, there's a couple of people here that have. I was personally thinking about painting my center console black instead of the stock silver/grey.

I got a bad scratch on mine so I painted it to match the car.

Instead of painting, perhaps you can use a dash kit. www.woodview.com

If you want, you can just buy the OEM factory part.

My GPS kept falling off my dashboard and scratched my center console as well. But searching for a couple of days showed the parts were pretty affordable. The company I went with was Palisades Volvo/Mazda Factory parts, as they had the cheapest prices for the two parts I was looking for:

1) Shift panel - that's the piece you're talking about.. automatic w/o nav is what I have and it only came out to $25.
2) Park brake cover - that's the adjacent piece that includes the cupholders, it was like $26.

If you're just getting the shift panel, it's cheaper than spending your time repainting the console - especially if you think things in terms of opportunity cost. For me, 1 to 3 hours of time plus spray paint is more than $25, and I'd rather just replace the piece than struggle about taping, sanding, priming, repainting, etc.

I compared several different Mazda factory parts dealers, and .www.palisadesvolvomazdafactoryparts.com had the best prices. The site manager Dwayne was a good guy too.. straightforward and honest - which goes a long way for me.
