I noticed that Meguiars has a liquid version as well as a paste version... is one better than the other? I've always used paste carnuba waxes but now I noticed a liquid wax that is tempting me to try it. Is it really worth spending the extra $5 to get the liquid version?

I have the NXT Tech Paste, and I am very satisfied. You will get different oppinions from this one, some people will say liquid wax doesn't last as long, some will say the liquid wax is just easier to put on (With a polisher and such). I say go with old fashioned paste.

I've used the liquid and it gets dull VERY fast. Give it two weeks and it looks like it has no wax on it at all, although it seems like its still protecting but just looks bad. If you're paying $15 for that shit just step up and buy a bottle of AIO or other good wax/sealant. If you're getting it for free or heavily discounted then give it a shot I guess. All my Meguiars waxes have seemed to "separated" over time and don't remix well. When you let it sit after a year it seems like it's got water in it and will form wax droplets on the paint that are kinda a pain to remove.

I use the NXT Liquid and have been using it since it was introduced. It looks very good a lot longer than two weeks - in fact, it looks good most of the 4-6 months that it lasts me overall. I'm not sure what I am doing differently from a lot of the people on this forum, but a friend of mine gets similar results with the NXT liquid.

There is no wax out there that will look good for that long - detailers agree it's all gone within 3 months if you're lucky, most will be gone by 1-2 months.

The day "detailers" agree on ANY type of wax and how long it lasts is the day Hell starts selling ice.

I've used NXT liquid on my Steel Gray car for the past two years straight, one application in the spring, another during the summer, and one final application before the winter. So far this year, I haven't even touched my car with anything besides car wash soap and a sponge, and it STILL beads water a full SEVEN months after the last NXT application, even through harsh snow/salt/sand, and it still gets compliments from everyone.

To the OP: Go with either liquid or paste, whichever you feel more comfortable working with.

I use the liquid NXT wax, but since my car is white, I can't really tell you how good it really works since we all know that white doesn't show improvements after detailing like "colors" do.

However, I don't have any issues with it. I might help my friend detail his red S2K in a couple weeks, and that will really show me how well it works.

I'm not convinced. I did not say everybody agreed a particular wax lasts some particular length of time - I did say that basically ALL waxes will wear off within 90 days, and there is a consensus on this as far as I'm concerned.

Also, beading may not necessarily be a good indication that a wax is still protecting a car - a good coat of paint with no protection will bead water and some sealants will sheet water.

In the end you can use what you'd like, but from what I've seen and the majority of opinion, $15 for a bottle of NXT is a waste of money. You could spend another 5 bucks and buy a bottle of AIO, Megs #26, Poorboys Natty's/EX, 4* UPP, and the list goes on...tons of products that get much better reviews and are way more deserving of your hard earned money (not to mention your elbow grease and TIME). Shoot you could even try WetPaint...though I've never tried it before but I haven't seen many bad reviews about it, just a bunch of hard headed "I've never tried it but it will never work" comments

I decided to try the liquid NXT wax because it was 50% off at my local auto parts store and I got a free car wash soap (gallon of it) for free... the end result is amazing once I used a claybar, polished it, and put 2 coats of wax on it. I do like to wax my car at least 3 times per year...

ALL waxes or all Carnauba waxes? The websites you listed say that the synthetic type waxes can last from 6-9 months, due to their higher melting points.

And yes, NXT is a synthetic wax: Click me!

I stand by my opinion. For the $$$ (and time), NXT is one of (if not THE) best for car wax. A (IMG:style_emoticons/default/78.gif) on this forum shows that I'm far from the only one that believes it.

Glad you liked the results. I myself decided to wash and wax my car this afternoon, and was luckily able to finish and garage it before the thunderstorms rolled in.

My new neighbor commented to me that he can't believe my car is four years old. "It looks like you just bought it last week."

I had to show him the registration to prove it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/5.gif)

Guess the OP will just have to find out for themselves. I've used it on multiple colors and I still haven't found one where I can't reproduce the NXT-level looks with superior durability using another wax

I've been using liquid NXT wax ever since I got the 6, simply because I borrow my buddy's Cyclo buffer whenever I fully detail the car. It's just easier to apply to the pads. When I don't have his buffer around (he owns a car wash/detail place) I use the NXT paste. Both work great, leaving a nice deep shine.

Wow some of you guys are hardcore, LOL!

So do you clay, polish, and wax all in one day??? Or do you do one each day, and wash the car each time before you do that stuff?

Has anyone ever used the NXT spray wax?

Also, does liquid was still leave that residue on the trim and stuff? My father made me when I was a kid use Nu Finish since he worked at 3M and it left this white residue all around the window trim, etc.

The wax I tried was Satin Creme. It lasts 6 months or 7 years on driveway. Had some dropped onto the driveway floor. Because it is porous, the wax bonded to the concrete. It's been 7 years and it is still there, after countless scrubbing. Never used a high pressure washer or solvent though.
On cars, the wax lasts 6 months cuz it is a sealer and Carnauba wax. It is our more expensive wax although it is not my wax of choice. I prefer something easier to work with like our creamy Cherry Finishing wax that does not leave any residue and has no cleaner or abrasives, just wax. Link

You need to take some reading comprehension courses: I said MOST of the 4-6 months between waxes. I never claimed it lasted ALL of that time.

To make it simple to understand: I usually wax about every 4 months. MOST of 4 months would be more than 2 but less than the full 4.

Sounds a lot like 3, doesn't it?

And I have gotten 4+ months before (which would qualify for MOST of a 6 month period) - when the weather cooperated. During periods of very little rain (not too uncommon here in Oklahoma over the past 5 years) I don't have to wash very often (like once a month with a quick detail between to take care of the small stuff) and I use the California Duster once every few days. No rain. No wash. No problem keeping a wax looking good for more than 3 months. Also, I garage my car every chance I get, so it is protected from the elements a good portion of the time.

So, as I originally said - mine lasts a lot longer than 2 weeks. And it will last MOST of the 4-6 months I go between waxes.

And to be clear - I usually try to wax it within a week or two of a noticeable drop-off in the shine and slickness - dependent entirely on the weather. If the weather sucks, I might go as long as a month after I decide it needs a new coat of wax. (I really hate getting the car looking good and having the weather fuck it up in less than a day.)

Finally - you say "detailers agree it's all gone within 3 months if you're lucky, most will be gone by 1-2 months."
Hmmm - DETAILERS. You mean the guys that make money by waxing cars?
Mechanics agree you should change your oil every 3 months.
You believe that too?

I wash, clay bar, wash, polish, apply first coat of wax, apply second coat of wax, and then use a liquid detailer to finish the body of my vehicle... takes quite a few hours but i make it a date with my car for a majority of a saturday.... it's worth it!
