Very interesting! That's more power that I was expecting for the V6. Standard equipment looks pretty nice, too!

On the S models it looks like they've increased by $2000 across each product range vs the 08 car. Honestly once you break into the 30k range which surely the 6s GT would do easily loaded... there are so many other options available at that point that I dont think the 6 really would be an option anymore.

I like the 272hp tag of the 3.7 tho but hate the lack of a manual option. Personally I wont be in the market for another car until probably 2012 (at the soonest) and things will probably be vastly different by then in the car market in general. I might be looking at the next speed 6 by then or something entirely different, who knows.

lol

Mazda6i = Duratec23 = Ford engine. Mazda did their work on it but it's unmistakably Ford. Even then you'll find a couple pieces from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and probably 20 other companies on it. Cars are too expensive for a single company to do everything themselves.

Another example: Aston Martin V12 Vanquish's engine is just a pair of Ford Taurus SHO V6's welded together and reworked. haha

The 3.7L is a Ford Cyclone engine named Duratec 37 that is built in Hiroshima and called the MZI for Mazda vehicles and is basically an increased bore from the 3.5L.

Now the 2.5L is from a Mazda engine family that Ford helped develop called the MZR. In 2004, Ford replaced the Zeta Zetec with the MZR and called it the Duratec 20 and 23.

So basically, the 3.7L is a Ford-developed Duratec 37 engine that Mazda uses and calls it the MZI, and the 2.5L is a Mazda-developed engine called MZR in Mazda applications, but the family is called Duratec in Ford applications.

Biz is also right about how car companies collaborate with each other to develop their crap. The current Duratec 30 that the 03-08 Mazda6s' have was engineered by Porsche before they sold the engineering to Ford and Cosworth.

I spec'd mine out and it broke into the $30k range.I'm out even with my employee plan pricing. If it was availible with a MTX and the V6 I might think differently

It was the enthusiasts buying up the 6s with MTX in its early years of 1st gen that helped field the car in to the mainstream. Now we've been dissed. When my 6s is ready to be replaced it will be replaced by an M/T car Mazda or most likely not if things don't change.
