Black with an illuminite lip? That would be interesting, although I've never actually seen illuminite in person.

Cool, and cheap mod.
That turned out pretty good. I do have to question how long it holds up over time. I cant help but think if you went with a better quality primer and paint you would be wayyy better off. But man it looks great. |

I am seriously considering doing that to my wheels... What do you guys think about that graphite color on a Steel Grey 6? (with the stock 17's) I figure if it turns out that bad i can just redo it with the silver color (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) |

I saw his pic before reading that thread, and I thought those rims were aftermarket.. So does anyone have the balls to do this to their rims? I've got the balls! Now I've got a glacier silver 6 with painted red calipers. What color should I go with for my stock wheels? colored lip or not??? |

So we have a choice between white, black, gunmetal, black/gunmetal w/ flakes, and bronze? (Any other colors, IMO, would look tacky, unless someone can show me otherwise..) I for one, liked the flaked ones from the Acura that someone posted earlier.. I think it was off an Infiniti forum.. I just realized you also asked about a lip. I think a red lip would go well w/ your red calipers.. Then again, I can't really successfully picture it in my head right now.. |

Damn it Angel now you have me thinking (IMG:style_emoticons/default/36.gif) That finished product looks hot. Here's another example . If I do this I will most likely be going to towards a solid dark color such as these. Though I don't care for the flake in the paint This one? I like 'em too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/36.gif) |

i did this to my race wheels a while back. got some bronze ones from an evo guy, and started from there.
(IMG:http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/M6MrTea/wheels/rotas001.jpg) (IMG:http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/M6MrTea/wheels/redRota005.jpg) i started off wanting to go with the matte black, but i'd just bought all the paint stuff and was still learning....mixed in too much gloss....so they were now glossy. came out pretty good for my first try though. (IMG:http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/M6MrTea/wheels/clearROTA001.jpg) ..pic kinda sucks, but that that's them on the car. the gf bumped into them the day i painted them and tweaked one (driver rear), but they are track rims, so i didn't care much. more for practice than anything. Tea one thing I was wondering is
How have they held up after a few months? What type of paint did you use? Did you bake them? I remember when you posted up after painting them. I wasn't at that point yet though. |

Gunmetal w/ a red lip sounds really good, actually. Personally, I never liked bronze rims.. these were purchased for track rims.....i don't usually drive on my track rims. these are also a 35mm offset, so i didn't plan on running them at all until i pulled the fenders. i rushed to get ready for the track, and mounting these was my only option. i drove 400 miles up to the track, about 100 miles on the track, then 400 back and that's all i have on them currenlty. i haven't looked at them since i've been back actually, but i don't expect much. i only did one coat on them as i didn't really want the glossy look, so i just stopped.
i don't think it would be that hard though, especially if you baked them and used more than just an automotive paint (i was gonna start painting my car, and this was my practice) with a couple coats of clears. but i can't say for sure unfortunately. |

That definitely doesn't look half bad. Can you take pics w/ a better camera? How long have you had them painted? How are they holding up so far? They been painted like that for like 6 months now? I'll try to see if I can find my digi cam. For your question about how's it holding up depend on what kind of paint you use. I use Gross black paint from menard because I have good luck with them in the pass. As long as you sand & clear coat they will look nice. I was thinking about buying some chrome paint and paint the silver part. |

Not my 6, but I couldn't find a good one of mine to do this to...
Its a really quick photochop- if somebody wants to improve it and maybe drop the car, feel free.
