Hi Everyone,
We have completed the design of our Mazda 6 shifter and will be doing the first production run in the very near future. Below is a picture to give you an idea as to the improvement over stock, we're VERY happy with its performance. Thanks and feel free to contact me any time with any questions. Karel W. Thanks for the pics! I am going to put this in the Engine/Drivetrain section and make it a pinned topic for people to comment upon.

Is this going to shorten side to side as well or just front to back?

Being a physically shorter shift rod (less tall) should make all movement shorter.

Awesome, I've been waiting for word on this kit! If only it weren't coming out right before Christmas! Heh oh well, I'll have to buy myself a present after the fact... Any ideas on the rpice, I know your kits run in the mid $100's to low $200's for the most part. And any chance of a group buy?

How difficult is it to install for someone who isn't that mechanically-inclined?

True, but our shifter is not only a shorter shaft, we have also repositioned the pivot point to reduce the distance the shifter must travel between gears. Price is TBA but should be in line with the rest of our product line. Thanks. |

Hello Karel. I am interested in your short shifter. I have a question. How is this TWM short shifter compared to the Mazdaspeed one? Part number is GRMS-8M-H12. Description says: "Manual transmission. Reduced throw for improved feel and shift accuracy. Installation renders OE shifter non-usable". The link to the Mazdaspeed PDF document is here

I really loved the one the RPM guys made for us forum members. My 6 is my first stick, and after a few test drives, I realized that the super sticky knotch feel just wasn't for me (and living in San Francisco, there's always too much traffic).
How will this feel physically? And I'm assuming from the picture that we can keep our stock shifter knobs? Also, I'm a tall guy, and I love the currnet height of the stock shifter. When not shifting, I rest my forearm on the arm rest. Maybe you can take some pics (even better: VIDEOS!) of something actually shifting? THANKS!!! CAN'T WAIT! :) |

The guy already said it will be in line with their other products, which looks like low end $140 to high end $244.

QUOTE(GoofyG28 @ Nov 13 2004, 04:50 AM) How will this feel physically? And I'm assuming from the picture that we can keep our stock shifter knobs? The shifter actually feels very smooth. We spend a great deal of time testing to find the perfect amount of adjustment that needs to be made to the pivot points without creating a sticky shift. By reducing the height and the throw it is easier to achieve a short, precise shift without adding to the effort needed... QUOTE I believe thats its not a guy Lol, its pronounced Karl, the "e" is silent so yes, I am a guy... :) QUOTE Hello Karel. I am interested in your short shifter. I have a question. I personally only got a very brief look at the Mazdaspeed Mazda 6 shifter at SEMA but their shifter does "basically" use the same concept as ours, though ours is more aggressive in terms of throw reduction. The Mazdaspeed shifter also uses a mechanism which can potentially be damaging to your shift rods, we used a different approach which is safer. Our shifter does also require the permanent removal of a small tab on the stock shifter in order to install it. Basically it is impossible to remove a plastic retainer cup from the stock shifter without removing a tab that is welded to the shifter. Once this tab is removed you would need to have it re-welded in order to re-use the stock part. Hope this helps and let me know if anyone has any other questions... I'm pushing my production guy as hard as I can to get this out as soon as we can. |

From the description I imagine that you do not need to weld to install their shifter, you simply need cut off the tab off of the existing shifter in order to get the plastic cup off so that you can re-use it.
If for whatever reason you need to go back to stock you will then need to weld the tab back onto the shifter to return it back to stock. |

Do it with speed and style (if no speed at least style...) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Group: Mazda Members Posts: 1,813 Joined: 16-February 03 From: Troy, MI 48083 Member No.: 1,083 |
I believe that you can just cut it off with a saw or something like that. But Goofy, you should of stick with the RPM adaptor a bit longer. I had the same impression as you when i first installed mine, but after a while i think the adaptor is sorta "break in" or i just got use to it. I can shift without much effert and i do alot city driving and it's perfect to me. :)
BTW, Congrat on a great Prodcut from TWM! Keep on the good work! |
