I am not a fan of the rims or of the little tail piece, so this is how I would have my car look:

QUOTE(sePANGgreen6 @ Sep 25 2004, 09:36 AM) doesnt it need a hood scoop? As evidenced from the raised hood that stretches from the bottom of the hood to the vicinity of the intercooler, seems like they have the air coming in thru the grill above the mazda insignia, and then ducted to the intercooler. Speaking from personal aesthetics, I much prefer this design than have a hood scoop get in the way of the 6's lines. Do you have ESP? Yo must have read my mind when you came up with that excellent photoshopped pic, except I would've put the 18" Mazdaspeed wheels. While we're at it, what's the use of a second pair of fog lights? Just a few quibbles, but it's an admittedly good execution on Mazdaspeed's part. |

From the press release
Exterior highlights include: - Smooth yet powerful press line flowing along the added depth of the hood from the upper grille emphasizes the length of the front that hints at the high performance delivered by the turbocharged engine and intercooler housed within. - An aerodynamic form of the front bumper and lower grille section that speak of the car's high performance and amplify its road-hugging image. - A five-point upper grille section that also serves as the air intake for the engine's intercooler. So it doesn't need a hood scoop. I guess it is kind of a stealth one. |

I'm a little confused from the cut-away illustration of the engine.....is this a 6 cylinder or a 4 cylinder? Seems like the picture shows one half of a 6-cylinder engine (unlesss one of the cylinders is hidden), but I thought the MPS was supposed to be a turbo'd 4. Please clarify!

The middle two pistons are in the same position...that's a sure sign it's a 4, because they move together on 4s (they fire on alternate cycles, though). They just don't show the piston on the far left. Drew |

I'm kinda bummed it looks like it will only be the sedan. I thought some of the pics going around were showing it as the 5 door, with the rear wiper.
Oh well. |

The seat belt pulls down from right above the middle occupants left shoulder, clicks into the seat belt type thing on the left side then crosses over like a regular seat belt. Illustration? :yesnod:

More Pix and an opinion :D Why do manufacturers insist on mounting intercoolers on top of thier motors? Thier is plenty of room for an intercooler in front of the radiator. Will probably have to get rid of the factory fog lights, like on the WRX, to get the piping fitted. I wonder if that will be the US spec bumper? Hate the hood. I understand that it will allow better airflow for the intercooler, but it looks like a growth that got out of control. :nono: |

I hate you man. I'm gonna start dreaming of this car. Think about the lucky buggers who hasn't got a car yet and will own one of these babies. One day you'll be driving around in your '04 Mazda6 and a bugger driving the MS6 just beside you at the traffic light, smirking at you 6 and mentally saying, "Hah! That's all you got??"
Any more specs on the car? I assume being a sedan, it goes head to head with the evo although I would expect a larger rear spoiler to compensate for the speed. Concerning the intercooler thing, here's the reason. Notice how the front hood of the MS6 bends and the Mazda Emblem grill tilts at an angle? Intercoolers has a less likely chance of being damaged when placed on top of motors. The problem before was the amount of air that would flow into the intercooler, but by designing it this way, you get piece of mind that your intercooler won't get chipped or damaged by flying debris, with a possible 10 - 15% reduction in air flowing into the intercooler. I think that's a reasonable sacrifice. It beats having to install front intercoolers and having to place your license plate on the side! |
