Hey, I recently purchased a 2010 MZ6 i Touring. Comes with 6 disc CD changer, non bose system. Getting tired of stock system, so wanted to upgrade the speakers. I realize it is 6 speaker system. I was wondering what people here typically did. Should I buy component set for front, or just buy separate tweeter/woofer? Does anyone know if speaker connections run to the back where I could put additional speakers where the bose speakers should be? Or would that involve having to upgrade stereo also? Just looking to get a good quality system in place, looking for advice. Thanks : )

Hmm, maybe I can simplify question. What size speakers should I put in front/back, and should I bother replacing tweeters? I'm assuming since there are separate tweeters, that there is a crossover somewhere? Does this mean I should replace with woofer/ tweeter only, or any two-three speaker? Basically I want to upgrade, but because of tweeters, not sure what I should do.

Well I'm not the guy to ask, I have an '03 6s. I upgraded the tweeters first, and it was NIGHT AND DAY putting just midline (instead of crap at bestbuy) Kickers in there, haven't amped them yet, thats on the way. Upgraded other 4 speakers with 2 way Kickers as well. Those provided a decient improvement, didn't have to crank the bass as much to get a moderate sound, but they take more power than the originals, so I'll be amping those with the tweeters as well.
Last were the subs, obviously it helped a lot. I have EXTREMELY CHEAPO Lightening Audio subs that I didn't pay for, but using the right wiring, it was a major improvement for a balanced sound.

I would suggest using search (IMG:style_emoticons/default/5.gif)

I took out tweeter and measured it, 1" cone. The speakers I didn't look at, but it seems there are a variety of sizes that will fit, from 5 1/4" 5x7, 6x8, so I guess I have a lot of options. I'm curious I should buy component system and mount crossovers, or can I get away with just buying separate tweeter/woofer since I shouldn't need another crossover, since I have tweeters stock. For the woofers, I can't seem simple woof like in component system, just 2 or 3 way. Is this fine? Does anyone know how much RMS the stock non bose unit puts out so I can size what speaker I need?

Thanks.

On my last car (toyota camry solara) I changed the radio drom stock to a Nakamichi + subwoofer and it was night and day. SOmetimes the stock speakers are not that bad, the problem is the radio. On my GS 6 I like the stock radio, not the best on earth but not the worse I heard. I was thinking about adding a subwoofer were the bose subfooer is on higher trim 6. I dont see any hole, I hope that I get remove the top grill to get acces and remove a steal plate or something to be able to cut a 8" or 10" hole to put a sub there. I dont know how it could sound without a box, the trunk will be the box. The spec will be like an infinite baffle setup I guess. SOmebody did this?
