The clay bar- I would pass on, unless you are going to a car show or a SERIOUS car enthusist. It did what it says it would. Made the car feel like glass. Very smooth, it did do a great job at getting off the tar and bug guts from the front bumper that the soap didn't quite get, but they make sprays that will do that also. It was an extra step that I probably wouldn't do again often. Never pass on the Clay bar. It is a must. If you don't remove the deposits embedded in your paint, when you wax you simply seal them in. Yes, it is a PITA, but is worth effort. As you stated, your metal feels smooth as glass. I wouldnt tell others to pass on this step...especially since its only needed twice a year. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/36.gif) BTW, I use PRIMA, and Griots. They are a little pricey but you get what you pay for. I dont have much luck with OTC car products. You do not need to keep with the same brand, despite the products suggestion on the bottle (they want you to buy their full product line so they can get more of your $$.) Mix and match if you want, see which works best. As far as the clay bar...a clay bar is a clay bar. (I am not a fan of the liquid versions though.) Here are my last results using Griots. No more swirls, and this car had 65k miles on it. (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/1LowNeon/MINIs/Digi141.jpg) (IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/1LowNeon/MINIs/Digi145.jpg) |

Which Griots polish do you use? I think that it's definitely a polish for beginners using a random orbital cause they can't fuck up the paint with it but it won't take care of paint issues either. Their Best of Show wax is really nice though, along with their Speed Shine and Spray Wax.
3M polishes are pretty darn good polishes. |

I couldn't imagine doing it by hand, and using the RO will make sure that even complete noobs will have a hard time burning the paint. I have all 4 polishes, but only used polish 4 once I got the car to where I wanted it. When I bought my MINI with 27k miles on it, I had to use Polish 2....I hate black, lol. |

I have always loved using Mother's over Meguiar's. I like Mother's detailing spray as well as Mother's interior detailing spray. Mother's Reflections wax and top coat have given good results as well.

Meguiars Trim Detail is amazing. It is meant for plastics and the top plastic part of the passenger door had the black paint beginning to fade. I rubbed some of that stuff on and it is like it has been resprayed.
I also used it on my mirrors and it repels water very well when I wash the car... Also, their wash mitt and microfibre chamois are the best I have ever used. |

Use their micro-fiber towels. applicators, and bonnetts; as well as their Show Car Glaze (no. 7) and Butter Wax (No. 26). Went to NXT polish for my wife's 07 Miata which turned out nicely as well but want to see how durable the shine is. Mothers products are also very good as are 3M. Just treat your car to some patient surface care and the rewards will be there for a long time. |
