I was about to bump this for an update. With a hotted up engine, you'd have ended up wanting a higher stall than 1800 anyways.

Yeah the 1800 stall was so the wife could drive it every day comfortably but oh well! Now she can lite'em up if she wants to

Still have to put motor and tranny together and drop into the car. It took a while to find the converter I needed and plus I put my CPE FMIC in so I could free some space up in the garage.

I'm sure that you covered it before, but is it running the stock 2.80 gears?

Not sure on that. I want to say there are but I've ran into things that have been changed by previous 2 owners so who knows. I would have to open the rear end to check.

Might as well crack it open and change out the fluid while you are in there.

Most of the old 8" rear ends have a tag hanging off them. Mine still has the 2.79 tag even though I've put 3.55 posi in it. (Try finding a 8" 3.55 posi that's a reasonable price.) The other way to do it is to turn the drive wheel and count how many rotations it takes to turn the drive shaft one full rotation. That's a quick way to get a rough idea. It'll either be 2.79, 3.00, 3.25, etc. I'd be surprised to see it any higher than that.

Haven't updated this in a long time, not that there is much to add. But got new engine mounted to the tranny and its still on the Cherry Picker waiting to get dropped in. I had a ruff time getting the engine and tranny together and having the play I needed. Eventually had to get a custom torque converter from Hughes and 2 Engine shim plates. She is together now though!

Wife and I got the car out of the garage this weekend and cleaned the crap out of the engine bay so I can do a little touch up painting before putting the new engine in.

Not going to go all super nice paint job on engine bay, cuz eventually I will be replacing a bunch of stuff in the front end and I want to get the engine bay and whole car painted at once later down the road.

Very wise. I made that mistake once. Once.

Just stumbled upon this thread...too cool. Didn't realize there were so many classic Mustang owners here! Car looks nice, and everything you've done I would put into the "useful" and "smart" category. I did the '65 in my pic with my Dad while I was in high school. These cars are so much fun it can be addicting. I agree with everything Sacramento has told you as far as parts, especially the Pertronix. That thing is awesome, and takes a whole 15 minutes to install. Have you gotten to drive it yet? Car looks nice, and I'm sure even better when it's done! Keep us updated!

You have an Edelbrock carb, right? With the C4 auto transmission? Did you have any luck getting a kickdown linkage for it? I have an Edelbrock 600 on my 289 (Performer manifold and cam, ported heads, roller rockers, forged pistons, headers) and had a hell of a time getting the linkage to work for the tranny kickdown. I finally had to have a transmission shop make one for me. Just wondering if you have had any better luck (or even tried yet). I even bought Edelbrock's "kit" for the C4, and it did nothing for me.

Nice project car! Do you have any more exterior pics... maybe some without drop cloths on her? I like that color too, very pretty. What color is that?

Damn, this really makes me miss my 71 Nova SS 396 =( I bought it already restored and built, but the guy must have run out of money before he sold it, because when I picked it up it barely ran... coil was shot, and 650 quadra-jet carb needed to be rebuilt. A buddy of mine helped put in an MSD ignition and a 750 Holly double-pumper (if I remember right... I was 19 when I had this car). The only thing that sucked was that it had a 10 gallon fuel cell in the trunk, and no gas gauge... so needless to say, at about 8mpg, I ran out of gas a couple of times! lol Fastest car I've had by far... there's something about being able to roll along at 5-10 mph, stomp on it, and make the 255/70's light up with blue smoke! The only thing that sucked, was that no one ever wanted to race when I was at a light... they'd just pretend they didn't feel the earth shake when I gave the beast a couple of revs! lol Any idea what she might be putting down for hp's when all is said and done? I look forward to having the loot to pick up another muscle car down the road.

I understand about the A/C... do you know about how much hp you lose with an A/C system on the car? Just curious because I have no idea.

Best of luck with the build... I look forward to seeing some pics when she's all done!!

All right everyone time for some more updated pictures! Sorry if they don't look to good, they are from my phone. There is more stuff that I recently started, like putting in the new A/C system, no pics of that though cuz it's not finished yet. I have the unit installed up under the dash & the new controls installed but thats about it right now.

Been doing all the work on my own! It's a ton of work and lots of time, but I'm enjoying seeing it come together!
