I've been off the boards for a few days due to the fact I just picked up a project car for my wife and I have been working hard on getting things taken care of the need to be done.
Got her a 66 Mustang Coupe! I have a couple pictures, not great quality photos cuz they were taken with my phone and in a garage but here they are anyways.

We've got a 67 sitting in the garage. Congrats! If you need any product reviews, let me know. I've done a rack and pinion steering coversion, front disc upgrade, and a ton of other things to the car. I've got a million killer links for everything.
Looking fowards to seeing the pics. |

The front brakes have already been swapped over to disc and I heard about the rack pinion steering conversion but cost's like $2k. We are having the tranny rebuilt and a newer 5.0 motor built for it, but using the heads and intake manifold from the OEM motor. |

That ought to make plenty of power for what is a fairly light car. Couple of points.
1. The stock heads will work fine and can make really good power if you have a little porting done on the exhaust side. The only concern I'd have is compression ratio being to low or high, but new pistons in the rebuild can take that into account if the builder knows what heads you are planning to use. I used my stock iron heads for a long time and made nearly 300whp. 2. May as well convert to a roller cam since you have it taken apart. This is something you can do now, and will help you make power later. Not neccesary by any means. 3. The stock intake manifold will run out of steam at about 3500-4000rpm. With a 302, a 600cfm vacuum secondary and performer RPM will help make good street power when you want to spend the money. You'd be able to do this whenever you want, or when you have the money as long as the cam can take advantage of it. 4. I'm guessing you've got a C-4 trans. Solid unit and fairly light. Picking the right torque converter will make all the difference. Finding an option for overdrive is tricky. I have an AOD sitting in my garage, waiting for a home. I've decided to do a 5spd manual swap in mine. You can also bolt up a Gear Vendors OD unit that will split every gear ratio, effectively giving you a 6 spd automatic. 5. If you are keeping the stock ignition, add a Pertronix to it. You can find them at Mustang Depot, or any Mustang retailer. This is worth it's wait in gold if you aren't swapping to MSD ignition. Speaking of which, be sure that your distributor has the correct gear for the cam interface. Different metal types for different types of cam. They'll chew one another up if incorrect and it happens all the time. Sounds like a cool car. They are a boat load of fun, just a real pain in the ass in the rain. I could go on and on. |

LOL, as for the heads concern, the guy building the motor knows what heads I'm giving him and he is going to port and polish the heads also. The new motor is a roller motor. My motor guy is actually the one that suggested doing the roller motor. I think it might already have the Pertronix on it, well I remember seeing their "Flame Thower" coil on there but not sure if it has the whole package. The converter is beeing matched to the cam in the motor. |

I like the GT 350 hood. Nice! Chances are, if it has the Flame Thrower Coil, you are in good shape.
Here are some kick ass links: http://www.mustangsteve.com/ http://www.ultrastang.com/ http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/fusionbb.php? http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/ The first two have tons and tons of solid tech info. Vintage-mustang forums is by far the best for the older cars. Stang-net is OK, and the others blow ass. If you are going to do one mod besides the Arning drop on the suspension, and that's a good one, go to open tracker and get the roller spring perches. They simply make the front end of that car work. |

Here are the cell phone pics that I have. Pics are not of the car in my garage but from the garage of the guy I bought it from. They were taken with my phone 3 days ago. The car is at my place now but I haven't taken any pics of it with my regular camera yet.

Ok lets go over a few things about the car.
First of all the tranny needs a rebuild and the motor runs but like I said above we are having a new motor built. Second of all since we live in Phoenix,AZ we need to put in a A/C system so the wife can actually drive it in the summer. Now on to what the car comes with. Here is a list of parts that are in boxes & not put on the car yet. 1. New carpet sound deadening mat 2. New pre-molded carpet 3. New embroydered Pony floor mats 4. New upholstery for both front seats (the rear seat is already done) 5. All brand new emblems 6. New inner door panels for both sides 7. New mirrors 8. New door handles 9. New tail light bezels 10. New exhaust bezels 11. New instrament cluster bezel I think there is more to that list but I can't remember everything. The trunk is completely full of brand new parts. Here is a list of what already is on the car. 1. Montey Carlo bar 2. New tires and rims 3. Front brakes upgraded to disc 4. New tire rods 5. New shocks 6. New leaf springs 7. LED tail lights And again I think there is more to this list as well but can't remember everything. Also the floors in the car are perfect, no rust anywhere and the body is straight! So what does everyone think I might have paid for the car? |

That's cool bit of stuff that's coming with the car. I love the LED's in mine.
I live about 45 minutes from Mustangs Plus, I know all about that place. Good group of people, and nice to talk to over the phone. Their new Mod-shop is something to behold. They are also carrying the roller perches from Open Tracker now. As for cost; how many previous owners, and is it an original AZ car? |

Hmmmm. It looks like somebody had the right idea, but got stuck and ran out of motivation. Body looks fairly straight and cancer free, I'll assume that since no mention was made and the car has a dry climate petigree. 2 owners is pretty good. Tons of extras to install, I can see that interior needs some TLC, but most of the parts are included. Engine ran, but is being rebuilt, and trans is being rebuilt, so there were some issues there.
Lord its hard to say, but if the guy was just selling it to get rid of a project and didn't need the money RIGHT NOW, I'll guess $5000-$5500. That would be a decent deal I think. |

Pretty good estimate & thought process! I paid $3,900 for it. I think I got a pretty good deal! Took a loan out for $8k to cover the motor, tranny & A/C and will have some left over for other bumps we will run into. |

That's a solid deal.
There are a lot of decent deals out there as people are selling project cars to pay bills right now. Nice. You guys are going to end up with a very cool ride that'll get plenty of attention without a ton of cash hanging out there. Right on. |

Yeah I think she will love it once it's done.
Motor guy is doing motor for $1,200 Tranny guy is doing tranny for $500 Vintage Air A/C kit is $1,100 going to put that in myself with some help to make no labor cost So main concerns are going to total $2,800 leaving us $1,300 for other things we will need to do when we find them. The car won't be perfect when the money is gone but it will be a strong runner and reliable! The other details will be worked out over time. I can't wait to get it on the road! |

Wow man, that's a great deal! I know you'll enjoy fixing it up. Older muscle cars just seem to be more fun to work on than the new ones. At least in my opinion. My dad and I have been rebuilding a '68 Camaro for the last few years and I always seem to have fun working on it.

I find myself more excited thinking about fixing this car up than my Speed6 LOL! But there is so much out there for the Mustang and the parts are not too expensive. Like the plastic cover that goes over our stock top mount intercooler is outragously priced compared to some replacement plastic piece for the Mustang |
