Since lots of first gen owners and members in this forum dont like the new 6, IMO mostly because its bigger and more confortable, Mazda could build a sedan (and hatch) mazda 4 or 5 that would be just about the size of the first gen 6 and sit between the 3 and the new 6, It would at least answer some criticisms of some members here, altough comments gatered on other forums suggests that the new 6 is a step up from the last gen.

On a final note, the forum administrator should create a second gen forum or, at least, a specific section for the second gen 6 (not the one called "future..."). I think first and second gen owners/enthousiasts will have difficulties "getting along". When a second gen enthousiast makes a positive comment about the new 6, he gets flared replies from second gen haters (ugly, bloated, to big and comfortable, lost its zoom zoom...).

The new Mazda will be the 3rd Generation (06-08 have facelifted features.) I'm sure forums admins are preparing to add a section as we may have an influx of users driving the 3G 6 soon (Though the 2nd Gen drivers didn't get a section for awhile.)

The new Mazda3 is supposed to be a little bigger as well and this may be a sign that they are going to go ahead and slide the Mazda2 in to the North American line up. I'm not sure what Mazda's direction is going to be but there will be no Mazda 4. The 5 as previously stated is basically a mini-van. I think the entry level will be the 2, the 3 will get some aggressive options and Mazda will try and stay in the sporty sedan class with that car. The 6 is aimed at america's waistline and is more like the altima's and accord's of the world.

Sorry, but thanks for playing.

The 2nd gen forums developed a few months ago are for the '09-up 6, and NOT the '06-'08. Pretty much every person in the auto industry refers to "generations" of models when they have a new or heavily revised platforms, engines, transmissions, etc. The '06-'08 is by no means a 2nd-generation 6, rather a "freshened" first-gen.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read.

What Mazda should have done is not develop a separate 6 for the US and make it the fat-ass version.

I wonder if the JDM version can be legally imported?

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read. Take it easy man. You're getting pretty sensible about this!

What Mazda should have done is not develop a separate 6 for the US and make it the fat-ass version. They did! Also, I'm not even sure you'd like the euro version way better. The Euro version is still, has you say for the NA version, a fat ass compared to the first gen 6.To quiet, soft, more upscaled, and expensive than the first gen. And, like its NA version, its faster than the first gen. And both version share the same 4 cyl., suspension, brakes, etc. So?
I wonder if the JDM version can be legally imported? Yes it can. You have to do lots of paper works (mostly here), have an address in Europe, and be loaded with $$$ to pay for everything.

Considering the Mazda2 is over 2 feet smaller than the current 3, and the new generations of Civic and Corolla are approximately the same size as the current 3, I would be very surprised to see the 3 grow more than a couple of inches. There is no reason for a larger 3 to fit the Mazda2 into the lineup as they are already more than different enough in size (at least two entire size classes... minicar vs. compact).

Unfortunately, this leaves a gaping hole in size between the compact 3 and the approaching large car 6 where a car could easily fit in the middle. If it were based on a stretched 3 platform with available V6 power and essentially the luxury features of the 6 and the sportiness of the 3... Mazda would likely win many of us back. Give it a firm well controlled ride, give it precise heavy steering with a very definite center, make it loud, make it proud, make it aggressive.

Mazda should have just let the average American buy Camry, Accord, and Altima and focused on making a practical sports sedan for the rest of us.
