Default 2014 Mazda6 Wagon Revealed: Paris Motor Show

Quote:
After sitting in the backwaters of the mid-size sedan segment for far too long, Mazda has revealed its all new 6 model today at the Paris Motor Show with dramatic styling and a focus on light weight.

Shown here in wagon form (in a new Soul Red Metallic paint), the sedan weighs just 3,100 lbs, making it by far the lightest mid-size model available. What isn’t clear however, is if it will be able to keep the pounds off once it arrives in North America equipped with our safety equipment.

With so little weight, even the car’s base 148-hp 2.0-liter SkyActiv 4-cylinder shouldn’t be horrible, though we won’t find out as the base engine set to power the new car in the US is a 2.5-liter SkyActiv motor with 189-hp.

Mazda is also preparing to launch the 6 (even in North America) with a new SkyActiv-D diesel engine. The 2.2-liter 4-cylinder will make 149-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque in a base form while a higher performance model will deliver 173-hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Helping take fuel economy to the next level, the 2014 Mazda 6 also introduces the brand’s new i-ELOOP start-stop system and regenerative braking system, as well as a suite of available safety technologies including Lane Departure Warning and a Radar Cruise control system that when paired with Smart City Brake Support will allow the car to autonomously engage the brakes fully if a collision is deemed imminent.

It’s not yet clear if Mazda’s i-ELOOP and start-stop systems will make their way to America. Less likely is the Mazda6 Wagon hitting out shores. Impressive as the new 6′s design is, seeing it in wagon form it’s hard not to think that the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.

Make a Speed version out of this trim!! its gonna look sexy as hell! AWD or RWD 2.3L 4cyl turbo charged engine with about 300 hp (: i think STIs and EVO's need a new rival (:

Or thinking out of the box...tweak the bigger diesel option for the Mazdaspeed version. around 240-50 hp and 350+ f lbs of torque could be fun! Dont think Mazda has any manual transmissions that can handle that however!

Badass! Now bring a higher performance diesel variant of that new wagon to the states and it may pull some sales from all the hipsters out buying the euro diesel wagons. Mazda will likely not bother bringing the wagon to the North American market in any form though.

Hi, I'm just spreading the word, that I have created a page especially for the Mazda 6 Wagon.

The purpose to lobby Mazda to bring the Wagon back to North America, and to dedicate a page to this great car.

http://www.facebook.com/Mazda6WagonForCanadaTheUsa

This is the New Community page on Facebook, and if you could send the news along the pipe, to your members, that would be amazing, and so much appreciated.

Thanks so much!

I have actually been in communication with Mazda Canada, about bringing the 6 wagon back to Canada, and several dealers across Canada to raise the conversation, as those who are dedicated to the car are being forgotten. I've also been lobbying on the many Mazda web pages, and Facebook pages as well!

So, finally, created a dedicated page.
I hope you like it, and look forward to seeing you on there.
Thanks so much
Ashley
