Default H11 to H9 fog light conversion

The H11 is the OEM bulb for the fog light, but I've done some research and discovered that a H9 bulb will fit with a slight modification. The benefit? MUCH brighter than stock (2100 lumens vs. 1350 lumens) with only a 10-watt and 2-amp increase (which should be fine for the stock equipment).

The downfall? A shorter bulb life span (due to a brighter burn), but IMO it's no big issue. Fog lights are relatively easy to access, and I don't use them every time my headlights are on, so in theory they should last at least until my warranty is up, when I might switch to HIDs.

I purchased a set of H9 3000K bulbs (the yellow color for fogs) for $18 and I plan on installing them this weekend. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Well, I installed the H9 bulbs in the fogs yesterday, and it was an easy task. Using the following photos I found online:







The bulbs I used were Halo Automotive Solaris Yellow H9 bulbs (3000K), and I did trim off the plastic tab in the socket of the bulb (using a X-acto knife), but I didn't have to cut down the metal tab to fit it into the fog lense, I simply inserted the larger tab first and twisted to bulb until the smaller tabs clicked into the housing, then I simply twisted the bulb into the locked position.

A pic with the passenger's side swapped out (you can already see how much brighter the H9 bulb is):

Not only is there a proper yellow color to the fogs now, but they are indeed brighter on the road at night. I haven't driven in any rainy or foggy weather yet, but I can see the yellow on the pavement in front of me, and they don't seem to be distracting to other drivers. In fact, I followed a friend of mine heading back to my home last night, and he had no problems with glare in the rear-view mirrors, nor by looking at the front of my car.

It ended up being an easier swap than I thought, and the benefits are well worth it IMO.

Nice one Ghost. Looks real nice. Might do this with mine when I take delivery. Come to think of it, mine is the same as yours but the I4 version. Silver is so easy to take care of.
Can't wait when you switch over to HID fogs.

Front end went up in flames last night...

Pretty much all of my driving is during the day this time of year, and the one occasion that it was getting dark, I just used my headlights (I don't keep my fogs on 24/7, only when they're needed). When I took pics, they were on for 10 minutes, but IMO the fog lens was no warmer than what they get with OEM bulbs.

This conversion has been used on other makes and models, all with positive results. Google "H11 to H9".

I also did a quick inspection of the bulbs and housings this past weekend, and all is well. Seems both the housing and the lens can take the extra heat, and the wiring is good as well.
