07 4cyl sedan here. I'm getting a really harsh shift when cold, and a vibration at idle. Trans was rebuilt a few years back - so I am thinking it's an issue with the lower mount. (Passenger side looks okay). Anyone give me an idea how to confirm?
Not exactly a hardcore wrencher - but can follow a walk-through pretty well.
Jack the engine up and see if you can take a look at the rubber in the mounts. You might need a mirror and a flashlight to make it easier. See if the rubber is cracked or torn. Another possibility is the mounts might just be loose.
Thanks. Got a look at the trans mount - rubber is pretty much shot. I found a decent price on the rear mount, so I am going to do both. Using a jack to raise the trans has me a bit nervous - but we will see how it goes.
If you throw a wood block under it, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. If anyone else finds this in the future, you can pick up all the mounts for about $100 from RMP if need be.
I bought a new dog bone mount when I first got the wagon as what was there was so damaged, it might as well not have been installed. I went with the CPE mount and i find it is still super smooth. I can hear a bit of vibration only when I turn off the radio and sit very still. That said, I have an MTX so it might be different with an ATX.

Mine was totally shot as well. I replaced it with an OEM along with the Passenger side and things were great! After inspecting the driver side mount I noticed it was torn on two of the three rubber pillars. Many of the listed part numbers were wrong so after several returns I purchased the Mazda mount and the amount of movement increased. Pretty annoying. Even though the new mount is intact, the rubber is significantly softer (perhaps because it is fresher). The old mount even though it was torn, the rubber was rock hard, and with only one attachment left intact it still controlled the movement better. I was so confident (hopeful) after installation that things would be great, I recycled the old mount along with exhaust and suspension metal in a fit of cleaning. Now I can't even go back. Every v6 I have found in the yard has the trans mount already removed or is an MTX.
I have the CPE dogbone but I also have an AWR passenger side mount and I made a urethane transmission mount so I have ALOT of vibrations entering the cab. I will say it made a dramatic difference in the way power is delivered to the wheels, before when I had all the stock soft mounts I could feel the drivetrain "rowing". Now it is planted and feels very solid, especially when driving spirited.
