I wish I had a backyard to do simple maintenance myself... So I take my 2003 V6 to change oil. I guess the guy spilled some since there was smoke form the engine area for a second or two after engine got hot. But thats not the problem. The next day I start the car cold and there is a click sound and then a loud grinding sound coming from engine for couple of seconds. After a few seconds there's that click again and then grinding. This happened for about a minute. It seems I am not the first to have this after oil change. But what is causing this, just doesn't sound right! Any ideas folks?

Do you have a automatic or manual trans?

It could be the starter

Hey dj, thanks for your reply. Being that I have an ATX, I am not sure if it's the starter since I hear starter problems only for MTX on this site. Has anybody heard of ATX engine making grinding noise?

It is possible.....

It sounds like the starter is trying to engage while the engine is running
