I am 17 and looking for a car, my dad and I came across a 2003 Mazda 6 with 100,000 miles on it, now we test drove it and everything seems to be running great on the car, we acutualy drove one today with half the miles and it looked like **** and drove really bad. Now i just wanted to find out what you guys think about the car with the milage being that high...
http://carsense.reachlocal.net/used-car/20...-S-V-6-A24846A/ that is the link to the car. Id like to hear some of ur opinions about how this car drives and how it has treated you after this many years. Thanks in advance

1st: I believe that's over priced. My car is worth 9k it's a 2004 Mazda 6S 3.0L w/55k Miles and a few more options then yours has.
2nd: @ 100k Miles, you're looking at doing a coolant flush soon and a lot of other maintence. 3rd: How long are you going to keep the car for? Instead of buying a car that'll last you 2-3 years, why not just lease a vehicle instead? go to KBB.com and find out how much it's worth. I would, but I'm at work and filtered =(

kbb shows that car to have 5500.00 trade in value here in socal, so after recon and profit it might not be such a bad deal. also a car with 100k on the odo is in my opinion only a fraction of the overall condition. I would buy a 100k well kept car over a 50k beater for a a similar price any day of the week. If you do buy it I would change ALL the fluids so you know where your starting from, a transmission cooler would be a good add as well.

lol, I still think a car with 100K on it is like a puppy, need to pay careful attention to it, baby it, and make sure everythings dandy. For a 17 year old, I'd probably go something with less miles on it.

Thanks for your replys guys, I just wanted to let you know as well, that I have worked in a car restoration shop so i have some experince with cars, not new ones but still, Also i really love cars, and no matter what it is i will take care of it. If that changes any of your ideas because i will take good care of it, change fluids regularly, will problably get rims so the tires will be brand new and of a good brand, and may do other things as well.
I WOULD TREAT IT LIKE IT WAS MY CHILD!

Place i am buying it from gaurentees it passes every inspection standard by doubble or they will repair it for free, brakes tires, or anything.
Also if i did buy it with less miles on it (say 80) i would problably put around 20000 if i had to guess in 2 years or less because i would be making regular trips to jersey and back(1 hr each way) once or 2wice a week

Good point Maxx. Sounds like you know your way around cars so it wouldnt be too rough buying something with high miles. Just stick around on the forum, you can find DIY's on just about everything here.

Mileage doesn't mean a whole lot to be honest. It is purely an american obsession! A brand new car is bound to have some issues, but, those should be covered under warranty. A well maintained car with 100k on the odometer should not concern you in the least. Have it thuroughly gone over obviously. My 03 6i has 108k+ on it now and I bought it 4yrs ago with a little less than 40k on it. I was able to get the info on the guy that had traded it in. He used synthetic fluids (motor and tranny) since the 1st scheduled change on. I continued that practice and have never had any non maintanence related issues.
Run a car fax on it. See if you can contact the previous owner and ask how their experience went. I know of a couple 170k+ cars that are still on the road running strong! I put 214k miles on an accord back in the day and had to replace a power steering pump and a head gasket, its all in how they are maintained and driven! (that accord is still running strong by the way! Sold it to an older lady who rarely drives it, it had 240k on it last I saw it over a year ago!)
