My 09 6, 2.5L is making some annoying belt noise. Was wondering if anyone else had this problem, since the dealer told me it was normal for this engine, and was compared to one on the lot. Was told that the brand new one made same noise. I get a chirping noise at idle in drive. Only heard when there is something for noise to echo off of, like a wall or another car. Said they were going to call the rep. Anyone else experience this?

I had a similar noise in my car as well in the winter. They told me the same thing but I think they tighted the belt for me I don't notice it now.

I am also experiencing this. It started after 6,000 miles.
I will ask the dealer about it at the next oil change.

I work for a dealer and a tech stood beside the car and said it sounded like exhaust bushing or something, so I'm gonna have a tech at work check it. Also after the car is hot and i get out of it I get noise, sounds like flex pipe squeaking as it is moving. Do you notice this? If it is making it when i get out, I can push down on any corner and it squeaks. I'm starting to think this is all tied together. My car is also a Grand Touring, FYI.

Yes, I'm getting both of the noises you are specifying here. Have slightly over 9100 miles on car. The first noise is EXACTLY as you specified -- a squeaking belt type sound at idle and usually only heard when I'm in a drive-thru or next to a wall. The second is a creaking type of noise when exiting the car and it moves. I'm not as concerned with the second as I am with the first. My dealer recently went out of business in March, and all of the other dealerships are a good drive, so I'm interested to hear in what your experiences are with the dealer before I attempt to bring it in. Also getting small antifreeze leaks from those cheap spring loaded hose clamps, especially off the small hose just to the right of the plastic top cover near the air venting.

Is your car an iGT? I'm just wondering if this is only affecting grand touring models?

Hey guys its funny that you bring this up I actually have the older model mazda 6 2007 i4. But mine had the same problem as your describing. It was so bad in like a drive through or when beside a wall. I have taken it to mazda 3 times for the same problem. But it would only make the noise once I took the car around the block and it heated up. But I found if I stuck my head under the car by driverside wheel it was really loud. I actually stuck around and showed it to mazda this time and it turned out to be an exhaust flange and gasket between the header and the catalytic converter. It hasn't made the sound at all now since but I figure I will give it a little bit before I am sure but mention that to the dealer when you bring it in because I know a few other mazda owners with the same problem on the 03-07 models.

I have the 2009 Mazda6 GT I4 2.5L, and I am having 3 distinct engine noises.
1. Sound from the sepentine belt area (Hissing sound) when the car is in Drive but idling. If I put the car in neutral the sound goes away, also the sound is not visible while driving.
2. slight knocking sound while the car is idling and parked.
3. Tapping sound while accelerating at low rpm. It is as if you can hear the pistons or valves going up and down, similar to what you would hear from a diesel engine. But if I push the car while accelerating (about 3000 rpm), the sound is reduced by the higher revs, but you can still hear it slightly. It might be related to the knocking sound at idle, but not sure.

I do not want the mechanics to start messing with my engine, if these are normal noises for this engine, but I would like to confirm if any of you guys have the same experience.
I appreciate any information before taking the car in for service.

I have the 2009 Mazda6 GT I4 2.5L , and I have also heard the noise coming from under the car only when beside a wall. I believe it to be exhaust related and it seems like it is from the cat back. I had similar noises in my 94 and 03 grand am's.

The hissing noise you are referring to reminds me of an a/c compressor could be related since we have automatic climate control digitaly adjusted meaning even if the a/c button is off im sure the computer is running it to reach desired temp. I have reard this noise when i turn of the car comming fromt he front of the hood.

The noise that i am concerned with however is when shifting from park. Fisrt off, shifting from park to reverse with the car not being fully warmed up with rpms to 1100 makes a clunk noise when the gears are engaging and if you are not holding the break firmly the car jerks back a litttle. Same thing happens when putting in drive. Any one else have this problem when they dont warm up the car?
