I have a 2007 6i sport value edition and my engine is making a VERY annoying whining/squeeking sound only while im in idle. It started out only doing this after i drove it for a while but now it starts up in the morning doing this now! Its coming from the middle section of the engine and sounds like something to do with the fan or a pulley...I have read that other people had this problem and got it fixed but it returned again...is there any way i can fix this? My dealership said they didnt hear anything and even if they did my engine wasnt under warranty anymore because i have aftermarket wheels and subwoofers...which has NOTHING to do with my freakin engine!...how can i get rid of this?

We really need to add 2008-Current to the 2nd Generation forum title, and 2003-2007 for the 1st Generation forum.

I dont see how the 2008 is in the same class with the 09...the 08 is exactly the same as 06 and 07...the 09 is completely redone...

Mazda builds what may very well be the best engines in the world, only accompanied at the top by Honda. There is a reason Mazda was appointed development center for fourbangers within the Ford group (Ford owns 1/3 of Mazda which due to Japanese law puts them in control). Mazda were pioneers in the field of low friction engines, and even though these engines have a life expectancy close to perpeetum mobile, less pretty things can be said about the sounds they make. Especially in idle. Not very sporty, but very normal.

I wouldn't worry about that if I were you. (Oh... you ARE sure that it's just not the ACC pump you're hearing?)

Finally, your car is of the 1st generation Mazda6 while the 2nd generation is not out yet. As you say... the 09 is completely redone, which is why it's called the 2nd generation.

Hope things work out for you. And btw, if your dealership denies you warranty repairs on the basis of what you described above, I'd give 'em hell if I were you.

So why'd you post in the 2nd gen? Given your near-300 post count, you should be rather familiar with the car and our forum...

If I were you, I'd let the dealer have it over denying your warranty over something as trivial as wheels and subs. That's ludicrous and they couldn't prove that caused the noise if they wanted to. Mention the Moss-Magnusson act to them and see what they say then. It states that your warranty cannot be denied unless they can PROVE that aftermarket parts caused the problem(s) you are experiencing. You may have trouble still, but it's worth a shot. Or ask them if you put the factory wheels back on and remove the subs would they fix the problem. You have what is practically a new car and they need to hold up their end of the deal by honoring Mazda's warranty, which I'm pretty sure they get reimbursed for by Mazda anyway. Good luck!

I have the same problem with my 2007. it's the exhaust doughnut. They replace it and the noise goes away for about 12,000 miles then it returns.
