Thumbs up

I took my 04-6sAT to an inspection shop today to get my annual state inspection. When they hooked up their computer to the OBD, at first it wouldn't connect but then it spit out three codes (U0121, U0155, and U0100). They did not know what the codes meant (claimed their software was not up to date) and advised me to see the dealer. They also tripped the check engine light in the process.

I don't have any mods, so any fixes should be under warranty, but I'm wondering if this might be related to my sulfur smell issue, or just a coincidence? Also, does anyone know what these codes actually mean?

Thanks in advance!

I'd take their advice and go see the dealer.

They're miscommunication codes. Means their scanner wasn't up to snuff. U codes are all WDS related codes, not car specific codes.

I wonder how long before the state gives up trying to scan can cars and just automatically passes them.

Yee old MRI

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
All 2003 - 2004 Mazda6
2005 Mazda6 2.3L only

DESCRIPTION
Some customer vehicles may have a false MIL illumination with multiple U-code DTCs. This condition may be caused if the WDS DLC cable is connected or disconnected while the ignition switch is in the ON position, or when the engine is idling.

IMPORTANT: When connecting or disconnecting the WDS DLC cable (or any scan tool equipment) to the DLC-2 connector (under dash), the ignition switch must be in the OFF position, otherwise, the MIL light may come ON and false CAN communication DTC codes may be set in the different CAN bus modules.

The following DTCs may be stored if this condition occurs:

U1900-ABS
U2516-ABS
U1900-FF-IC
U2516-FF-IC
U0073-FF-PCM
U0073-FF-TCM
U0100-FF-TCM

NOTE: It has been reported that some customer vehicles have failed the state emission OBD II test. This may be caused by the inspection station connecting or disconnecting the DLC cable when the ignition switch in the ON position, or when the engine is idling.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Verify customer concern.

Erase all DTCs.

Turn OFF MIL.

Turn ignition switch to OFF position.

Disconnect WDS DLC or scan tool cable.

Verify repair.
NOTE: Do not return vehicle to customer with MIL illuminated.

A couple of questions for State Inspectors.
Were they a where Mazda uses the CAN protocol and did they use a CAN tool?

I would definately get a second option on your trouble codes as most government organizations tend to be re-active instead of proactive with just about any topic. This being one of them.

yeah they take money for emittions on brand new car And you wonder why states are giving up the emmitions cause they can't train their people to hook the comuter to the car or update the computer to read all cars they encounter... I know a few people who had their engine blocks cracked from emmitions testing!

Dealer said that the state does not have the right software and that only a safety inspection is required (no emissions). Hope that holds up if I get pulled over. Thanks for the replys!
