i got my first oil change yesterday. i couldnt find the mobil 0w-20 anywhere in phoenix besides the mobil 1 expreess lube place. so i paid $63 to have it done. they even gave me a car wash for free! wow! they put on a mo 4651 oil filter. is it good? i cant find any information about it. does mobil make more than one filter? or is 4651 the size for the 6?

Mobil1 makes a great oil filter, although expensive. They ran me around $10 per when K-mart carried them. Now I can't find them anywhere so I'm using the K&N filters. Still, you can do a filter/oil change yourself with Mobil 1 products for about $35-40 (about 60% of what you paid). If you do or can do your own oil changes, I suggest finding an online retailer of Mobil1 oil. With all the dealer costs you will encounter during the regular service intervals, you need not be paying someone in excess of $60 for oil changes.

The mobil 4651 is not a Mobil1 filter. Its probably just a very cheap filter, can't say how good or bad it may be though.

Steel 6s is correct. The mobil 4651 is not a mobil1 filter.
Mobil1 filters start with the designation M1 followed by a dash, and a number. The correct Mobil1 filter for the Mazda6 is the Mobil1 M1-210. You were most likely given a OEM style filter. Whether its the right size or not I don't know. You can X-ref it to the Motorcraft FL-820S and try to find out if thats the correct OEM. Could even be a fram =/. On a second note...some people don't recommend the mobil1 filter in high rev'in engines. Their probably one of the best filtering but HIGHEST RESTRICTION filter on the market. Two sides...one argues for better filtration, one argues for better flow. In a high rev'ing engine, I'd definitely lean towards the higher flow filters. |

at that price you should expect a M1 filter! Ask them first how long do they think you should wait until next oil change ? The way you currently have it - I would not keep it for longer than 3k miles, with M1 filter you should be ok for at least 5K miles. Here is good solution: Tell them that you want $20 off your next oil change, and after 3k miles at next oil change you want only M1 filter used, that way you can safely keep it for 5K miles next time. They should not install a "el chipo" filter with premium synthetic oil, belive me they know! |

I used the Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter and Mobil 1 syn 0W-20 after 5000 miles. The filter cost 2.97 and one quart of Mobil 1 syn 0W-20 cost 3.78 at Walmart. So I end up paying 27.59 after tax.
