The passenger low beam on my 6 just stopped working when replacing both bulbs. <_< The black socket the bulb plugs into is cracked
and I'm thinking I need to replace the whole wiring harness as the fuse is good and the ground should be fine. Could I install an HID kit instead, or do I still need to replace the harness (if that is the prob)?
Anyone have any input? I really have no idea after reading countless threads. I saw this HID kit from DDM and wondering if this uses any of the wiring or grounds from the stock low beams. It'd be cheaper than replacing the whole wiring harness and an upgrade to boot.
It's the black socket where the bulb goes into and the wire is sticking out from. One side of the black casing cracked and came off. Not sure how and if that would cause my low beam to not work.
I was replacing my H1s and the passenger low beam just won't come on. Seems like a common prob with the 6. It's not the fuse and I'm certain the ground clip is fine.
I had no problem replacing my low beam H1's. Make sure the buld filliment is not broken of. It happened to me. Also make sure the half broken plug makes contact with the globe terminal.
I don't think the original owner of the picture would have minded. At least it gives me an idea of what's going on. You can check if you're getting 12V to the connector inside that black plastic case with a multi-meter. If so, then it could be the bulb that is the issue. Try swapping with the other side that is working.
The DDM kit that I have uses that black connector to get the 12V to power on the HID kit. Even if it's broke, it shouldn't matter since it's just connecting to a spade terminal on the HID kit.
Thanks Chilimax for the info. It looks like it depends on what kit you get, it seems the DDM kit doesn't use the stock wiring at all from what I've seen. And my bad on using someone's pic...I really didn't think that'd be a prob here since I'm not ripping off someone's guide or anything. Crap, if I just took the pic myself it would look nearly identical.
That little black piece is nothing but a cover, its there so the positive and the ground never touch (causes the fuse to blow).
I don't even have that thing anymore
Just pull it off and see if the physical connector is intact, properly plugged in
Oh I forgot to mention, I have a relay also installed with the HID kit, which allows it to draw more current from the battery than the wires that go to the bulb. The black plastic connector only triggers the relay to come on. Just get a relay kit for it. Nothing additional needed.
But yeah, I would check if you have voltage at that wire. If you don't, the HID kit won't work for that side anyways.
if you want to replace the plug just hit a junkyard cut off the connector, cut off yours and splice it on. probably be super cheap, if they charged you at all.
Anyone with a little electrical know how would know that the plug generally isn't bad.
Its just there to hug the spade connector and provide electrical contact
Even if it doesn't make proper contact right now, one could take a set of Kleins to it tighten it around the spade
Its defs the wires if anything
