I am wanting to upgrade my factory radio with the Sirius Mod. I am wondering if anyone has done this and if they like it.

I plead ignorance on the 2g, but with my 1st gen 6s and Mazdaspeed6, I had the Sirius factory unit installed. It was great because of the stealth install and total integration of the controls onto the steering wheel. The sound quality is no different than with a stand-alone unit, meaning, good quality on some channels and not so good quality on other channels.

Thank you very much on the reply. I am only hesitating because they want $350.00 for the parts and $255.00 to install. I do know that it will be so much better than adding a different head unit. Steering controls is a major plus. I am just being tight on spending extra money when I just bought the car, and just a little pissed because it wasn't a standard option on the itouring package. I am also wondering what the antenna looks like, if it looks factory or if it's the standard Sirius black one?

Well, just get an el cheapo unit for now then and wait until have the $ available and comfortable on spending $600. That's what I've been doing for about a year with my CX-9.

Here is a link to my thread on this same topic and what I've leaned: http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=115179

To sum it all up, I have a 2009 mazda 6 iTouring with the non-bose, non-nav, non-BT factory stereo.

I added the Sirius receiver, which I got lucky and picked up new on eBay for $110 shipped. This is part #0000-81-Z30 , which you can get from http://www.oemazdaparts.com/ for $204 + shipping. It includes the receiver and the antenna. I don't work for nor am I affiliated with oemazdaparts.com, I just found them to have the best price after shopping around. Shipping was also fast.

I then ordered the install kit, part#0000-81-N06 , which was $70.82 shipped the same website.

The dealer wanted a crazy amount of money to do the install, so I went to a local car install shop and they did it for $75 and did a great job.

<strike>Once this was installed, I lost the ability to use my AUX, which was something I used frequently. I found you can re-enable this, which requires a switching box, part #C9F1V6261 , which was $125 shipped from that same website, be installed to the head unit.

If you are going to do this, make sure you have all 3 pieces, as I now have to take my head unit out and install the switch box to get my AUX back. Seems like this 'feature' should have been installed by default.

The total price installed was around $381, which is a little more than the stealership quoted price for just the install.</strike>

The antenna is a small black non-oem looking thing, which looks similar to any other post-factory Sirius install I've seen. I'll take a picture of it and upload it here later.

::edit note:: You don't need the switch box at all to make the AUX work. I got a bad install and will have them fix it.

I have the money, I just don't want to spend it. Still pissed because it wasn't included.

Thanks for the information, I am ordering it and have a local put it in for me. Stealership here wanted $255 labor to put it in. That really doesn't make sense that you can't use your AUX after installing the Sirius mod. I will get all three pieces.

Yea, apparently on the these head units the AUX port is where the satellite receiver has to be connected, which means the aux in from the armrest has to be disconnected. Seems like a really bad design in this day and age of portable digital music devices.

Here are 2 shots of the antenna.
