Note to anyone trying to hook up trailer wiring: If you hook up a traditional 4-wire system (like on a utility trailer or a jet ski, etc) you will run into a minor problem that will drive you nutty. In most cases, you will need a special module to 'combines' the brake light and the turn signal into one signal at the trailer bulb. Once you install this, when you are driving on cruise control and if you use your blinker, the cruise control will turn off. Turns out there is a very small voltage & current draw that the computer or something is sensitive to (my old Maz 6 did not do this). ....even when the trailer is not connected!
The solution is to get a 5 wire plug and mount it UPSTREAM from this magical black box and unplug the harness when you are not towing.....effectively eliminating this pc of hardware and electrically, leaving 'flying leads' on the end of the harness.....ie, no curr or voltage drop. Unfortunately when you are towing the problem will occur.....but how often are you towing something? Another take-away from this is that the wiring in these new gen Mazda 6's is MUCH more finnicky and sensitive to any sort of small change. |
