Not that I care, I don't find use for auto-on headlights or DRL's, but, if you leave your headlights on, on non "auto on" car's, 1 minute after getting out they shut themselves off.....so next time it's turned on they are on.....and so on....

1 minutes of headlight run time after shutting the engine off won't put too much strain over the battery(although I'm sure this strategy will shorten it's life over time), considering a LOT of cars levae the headlights on until you hit the "arm/lock" button or after several minutes for "safety reasons"

so why the crap would they even make it an option?!?!?

so basically, the only difference between auto-on and regular system is that the regular will have lights on 100% of the time if left in on position....aka DRL's.....which a select few mainstream consumers are wishing the new 6 had'

they could make a a new turn signal switch as an option and just glue the knob to the on position and use a black marker to blot out the symbols....presto! easy $200

This is an oddity for sure

Auto on headlights means that a sensor detects the ambient light level and turns on the headlights if it is dark enough......

If left on auto. Lets say you get into a underground mall or etc. From DRL(off) it auto turn on your low beam and vise versa. I like this option. If you don't like it do it the old fashion way. Either turn it to "on" everytime u need it or just leave it on "on" 24/7..

I own a car that has auto-on headlights, and I don't like it too much. I prefer turning my lights on at my pleasing, many times when its dusk out I like to keep just my halos on so they are nice and bright when still being just light enough outside to see the road. With auto-on headlights they also turn on and off when you go under overpasses (longer ones), tunnels, and so on. This can be bad for the ballast of the HIDs.

Auto headlights is one of the items I wish I had in my previous car. Don't like them? Then don't use them! Seems like a silly thing to complain about.

I like the auto-on feature but I don't like that it dims my NAV screen and gauges so much when it's barely dark outside. I've had to set the dash lights so they are always bright.
If only you could set the dash lights to dim at a lower light level than what the headlights turn on with. That way the headlights turn on when it starts to get dark but the dash lights don't dim until twilight.

I like to control the light myself and I think Mazda should put the Auto in the last dail position instead of the 2nd one. I found some times trying to switch off the HID at night while engine was still running, the HID went on again due the Auto-On is the 2nd dail before reach the Off postion.

+1

But while we're the subject of the levers, I know it's a bit off topic but I would have preferred if they would have put the 'Mist' position of the wipers requiring to pull toward you the lever instead of its own discrete position (push up). That way, in auto mode, I could make it do a swipe without having to go to Off, Mist, Off and then Auto again.
