I want to dyno my 2007 Mazda Speed 6 but there is not anywhere in my state that has a AWD dyno. Is it possible to convert the car to front wheel drive so It can be put on a regular 2 wheel Dyno Jet??
I searched the forums but I did not find what I was looking for. Please help!!! Thanks

Probably your best bet would be to physically disconnect the rear drive shaft. Of course, such a setup wouldn't be very accurate for measuring absolute power delivery at the wheels. I guess you could do some basic engine tuning.

Long answer... you can disconnect the rear clutch electronically somehow, and that'll stop power going to the rear. You can also pull the handbrake, which should tell the sensor to do the same thing. My question to you is why, and what do you hope to glean from this experiment?

I am doing basic mods and I would like to have a before and after dyno chart. I don't just want to guess how much of a gain I am getting with the addition of the modifications and tuning.

If you are only doing moderate modifications then I dont' know that it's worth alot of trouble to find one once you figure in the cost of the test and everything.
Would a DashHawk work out good enough to help?

Trying to tune an AWD vehicle on a FWD dyno can't be good. The ebrake bit shouldn't work. IIRC you have to be in motion to disconnect the rear diff with the ebrake (it reengages then if you brake hard for example), and you can't really pull the ebrake in motion on the FWD dyno. lol If we had electronic control of the rear diff that'd be cool, but we don't.

There is a member here who claims he dynoed his on 2-wd dyno. Cant recall exactly who, but I will search around for him. Theres also a box (cant remeber if its under the dash or the seat) but its the box for our AWD.

Mazspd6,
Maybe its not worth the trouble to you , but it is to me. Smoker6, Are you just assuming it isn't good? DSM owners have been converting their awd cars to fwd for years and strapping them on dynos. I don't think Mazda would let the car go into FWD mode with the ebrake trick if it was harmful to the car.

I have absolutely no useful opinion on whether it's ok or not to tune an AWD car in FWD mode. I simply know nothing about it, and thus what I wrote on that was intended to be nothing more than speculative rubbish. lol As to the ebrake trick, what I meant is that the guy that figured it out in detail and hooked up a switch said AWD reengages if you brake hard, and sometimes even randomly after a certain period of time. My point was thus only that it seems it might throw off your results.
Cliff notes: Ignore the bit about FWD tuning, IDK anything about it. Do you think you'll get consistently accurate results with the ebrake pulled to disengage the rear diff if, from what I've read, the car may reengage it without you wanting it to?
