so my friend with his S-Tune 350z and I went out to orlando speedworld for some yawn inducing drag racing. well, yawning if you're deaf and blind...

something funny i need to mention in order to get it out of the way...i lost my copy of GT4 so i went out and bought another, because i need to play the nurburgring, ya know? then after i got back, i became slightly sidetracked and ended up on mazdausa's website and i copied down the gear ratios for the 6 (side note--i just noticed the sport and touring versions have different gear ratios for both the 6i and 6s. wtf?) i got my 6 prepped in GT4 and did the 1/4 mile and the best i managed, stock, was a 16.45 with a 5k drop. otherwise i was running 16.7-16.8. anyways...

some of these cars had rear tires the size of your average dinner table. ridiculous i say! i nearly shit my pants looking at the engine bays on some of these suckers. a beautiful charcoal turbo g35 which was running mid/low 12's, a twin turbo 300z with chrome pieces all over the engine bay, a large bag of skittles (how many will get this?) and your various assortment of badass muscle cars. btw, on my last two runs i tried to do the sacrilegious FWD burnout. both attempts weren't bad and i thought my friend caught it on video, but he watched the other guy's burnout instead. bastard.

i've never done a drag at a track before so i decided to do my first run in D-mode:

r/t - .602
60' - 2.498
330 - 7.065
1/8 - 10.77
mph - 66.36
1000 - 13.973
1/4 - 16.669
mph - 83.93

a civic with some headers/intake/exhaust (the usual) ran a 15.446 at 89 in the other lane.
so next, against a different civic who ran a 16.703 at 82.88, i tried sport shift/slapstick/tiptronic/lazymanual mode:

r/t - .596
60' - 2.606
330 - 7.272
1/8 - 11.015
mph - 66.15
1000 - 14.229
1/4 - 16.929
mph - 83.88

...ok. i went back to boring automatic. against a prelude with an intake...this one was a lot closer than i expected; even though he finished with a 16.159 at 88.53 we were neck and neck for a while

r/t - .642
60' - 2.509
330 - 7.098
1/8 - 10.822
mph - 65.85
1000 - 14.064
1/4 - 16.791
mph - 82.95

and this was against a ford lightning running a 14.215 at 101.87:

r/t - .582
60' - 2.474
330 - 7.051
1/8 - 10.766
mph - 65.91
1000 - 14.000
1/4 - 16.728
mph - 82.75

its weird. almost the same exact times i was pulling earlier today in GT4. the last run had the fastest r/t, 60, 330, 1/8th but the slowest 1/4 trap. if i could just make that 3rd gear a tiny bit shorter (seeing how i can take the car from 5mph to 92mph in 3rd gear...) i'd be much happier with the car's performance in general. not just saying that because of the 1/4 mile either...it is a very tough gear to link between performance and comfort, so i guess i can't blame em.

anyways, there were 2 speed3s that were there as well. neither could hook up at all and barely broke the 15s. no other mazdas at all. kinda sad. oh well. i'll get some basic pictures up pretty soon, but the other camera with all the vids has some sort of issue with the transfer cord where the light just goes red and doesn't do shit. until then, be sure to laugh at my 1/4 mile and do it while you can...i'll take your ass on an autocross course any time i love motorsports

well, my best to date is still only 16.8, though it was over 90* at the track. never thought to see how things compared in GT$, good idea i suppose.

I dunno if this is good for a 6i MT but my best time was a 16.3,and it was my first time ever. Only did 1 run and I am sure I can go under 16's.

I believe a manual in the right hands should shave off 1 second or so over the same car with an automatic.
I'm sure you can break into the 15's with zero mods.

thats good for your first time. with a manual, there are many little areas that you can lose time on, so there's a lot of room for improvement.

airbox and thats it. can't live without that sound. i have springs, intake, 225/45/17s, stock 17s (currently on 16s) all waiting to go on.

yup, this is true. the 06/07 6i atx should be able to manage a 16.5 with minimal work. the 03-05 6i atx is closer to upper 16s/low 17s due to the 4 gear auto. even with the intake and TB on my 04 i noticed the 06 atx was still quicker. additionally, i've driven the 06 6i mtx and i was pretty surprised in the acceleration difference. it should definitely be a solid mid 15's sort of car.

no, definitely not. you'd need to have, for our car, about 175-190hp to the wheels for sub 15s.

agreed

when i ran my 16.8 i had intake, header-midpipe, track wheels/tires (and the little free mods that don't do anything really)....and we did about 15 runs in 90* weather, sealevel track.

when we did our vegas meet, i added the Greddy catback, VTCS removal and valvebodies and was able to muster up a good 'ol 17.1 with it being about 75-80* in the middle of the night, and at about 2k"
