So about a year ago I purchased a 6s MTX. I love everything about the car EXCEPT FOR the reliability. It’s amazing how much I like the car. I think Mazda has really put together a good package but something must have went wrong with mine in the factory? Last weekend I brought it in for the 4th throttle body replacement! THATS RIGHT 4TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Each time my opinion of Mazda had lowered. In fact I cant say how disappointing to be driving a beautiful (IMO) brand new car with only 4k and all of a sudden the check engine light turns on and there is a complete loss of power. Very disheartening but I liked the car so I was very optimistic so I just brought it back to the dealer and they told me that I needed a new valve body. Ok, no problem I said......

Well now 4 vb's later I have VERY little confidence in my car. My Wife is pregnant and drives a Hyundai Tiburon which means that I will have to give up the 6 to her soon. I am at the point where I am scared to have her drive the car. I have been in to "not so good situations" where the 6 lost power at times that were not optimal. One was on the entry ramp of the highway and the other was on the highway in traffic. Both of those situations could be very dangerous and I cannot put my wife and child in that predicament.

Two weeks ago I bright the car to the dealer for the 4th vb and left again confident that it wouldn’t happen again but this past weekend the check engine came on again but there was no power loss this time. Just the light. If fact the car still drove fine. So I bring the car back to the dealer and they tell me that I didn’t close the gas cap properly. I ALWAYS make sure that the cap is closed properly and never top off, so I tell the tech on the phone today "I don’t know if I buy that" and he says "no offense, but it doesn’t matter f you buy it, that is what happened" WTF?

I am also in a predicament with perusing the lemon law in that I plan to bu a house later this year and cant finance anything new to make sure we don’t have problems with the loan. I was reading that under lemon law, with I now qualify for under NY State Law, they would have to purchase the vehicle back and terminate the loan or provide another vehicle at their discretion. I WANT TO KEEP MY CAR! But I want it fixed properly and don’t want to worry about it or the safety of my family when the car. I don’t know what to do.

Forgive me if I'm hitting on already reviewed material, but how many dealers have you been dealing with? If you have been dealing with the same dealer the whole time, I would at least give another dealer a shot if you really want to keep this car.

When are you closing on the house? It may be a matter of biding your time until after the closing, and then turning around and financing a new car. Maybe try to live on one car or borrow one for a period of time if you feel that insecure with the current one.

I know, I'm not throwing out any palatable options, and I'm sympathetic to that. Just grasping at any straw here.

I appreciate the feedback. I have had the viechle serviced at 3 diffrent dealers/service dept's. I tried a fourth but they werent very friendly so I didnt bother. The only bad exprience was at Manhattan Auto Group which I will NEVER go to again. I wouldnt purchase or service anything from them. I dont have anything against the other shops (Koppel Mazda & Country Mazda) they try to fix the problem and sound sincere, but I cannot continue to drive this viechle this way. I truely think that this engine has problems.

Dont have a closeing day yet as we are still in the process of looking. But I was told that a new loan wouldnt be a wise decision.

Again thanks for the feedback.

Demand to know what code(s) caused the Check Engine Light to illuminate. This would be a letter followed by four numbers, like P0430. Perhaps it is noted on your previous work orders. If the dealership has replaced your TB four times, that makes me wonder if the same trouble code was being set each time...

If the last code was indicative of an EVAP system leak, and the dealership tightened the gas cap and the system held pressure, then they wouldn't be off base in suspecting the fuel filler cap. However, there are so many conditions that can set trouble codes, one can't just speculate about what caused The Dreaded CEL. You have to know the trouble code(s).

Follow your state's Lemon Law procedures to the TEE. Mazda may listen with a polite, demand letter. Get them to have a regional service representative contact you about the issue and demand a fair resolution. You may avoid arbitration. Get your selling dealership's manager/owner involved. Last thing they want is bad public relations. Keep very accurate documentation of all conversations and written material. Be very persistant but professional. Remember, this is a product you bought under a contract. Leave emotions out but persuasiveness in -- remind them of they're contractual obligations, to deliver a vehicle which meets all FMVSSs and state laws.

But I would suggest providing a more complete history of your troubles with the car and the repairs performed, along with copies of the service orders. I find it hard to believe the dealership performed the same repair four times, but then again I don't know what your exact complaint was each time and what the service tech's diagnoses were. Was it, indeed, the same problem each time? I suspect that's what the Lemon Law may require you to prove.

If you do decide to pursue the Lemon Law, I would suggest you get a lawyer. It may cost more upfront, but the dealer/manufacturer will very likely respond much quicker to you then if you try to do this yourself.
