I have a 2009 6i. At the time I didn't feel like shelling out the $3k it would have cost me to upgrade to a car with Nav, but my wife is wishing she had it now.

What is needed to install a factory headunit w/ navigation in a car with the single CD base stereo? I can find factory NAV headunits, but I know more will be needed.

The non-NAV unit's stock harness is missing a few wires that the NAV/Bose needs.
The Speed signal wire, Parking Brake Switch wire, and two Audio related wires to the Bose amp are missing from the non-NAV/non-Bose head unit.

A complete upgrade would most likely require:
NAV head unit.
Bose amp.
Tweets, Sub, Center (or whatver speakers are missing from the non-NAV unit).
Bluetooth module.
GPS antenna.
All associated harnesses.

Ask your dealer if there is a kit. If so, it should include everything you need to convert the cars harnesses to work with the NAV.

Would you need all those things? I have the bose package and are very interested in trying to do this. Why would you need a Bose amp, Tweets and all that if you already had the bose package? or are these things only with the non bose package? Do car companies usually have a kit for this or not usually? thanks

There isn't a kit available on the Mazda Accessories website.
If you already have the Bose amp, it'll plug right into the NAV.

You don't NEED all those things. If you don't want Sirium or Bluetooth, you don't need to install them.
