Anyone know anything about updated nav discs? The most "up-to-date" discs are like 3 years old for my area, and don't feature new highways and tons of new roads that have been built in the last 5 years. I've called Mazda a few times, and their peeps seem unsure if Mazda will ever release a new set of maps. Anyone know what the deal is?

2009 Mazda 6s GT.

I dont want to sound like a doomsayer but I messed around with an 2010 mazda 3 and they have changed their nav system. It no longer takes discs, but is loaded via CF cards... Not sure if the 6 will be the same but if mazda is moving away from dvds for the nav then there probably wont be any updates.

Even tho Honda has updated their NAVI system many times in the past few years, DVD updates are still avaiable for the original Odyssey and Accord systems from 2000 - 2001.

If an independent supplier handles the updates (like NAVTEQ does for Honda), they'll continue to be available for some time.

Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with the Mazda parts dept either. The NAVTEQ site doesn't list the Mazda 6 (but has other models.) I sent them an email and will post if I hear anything.

I got tired and called mazda themselves. They assured me that while the 3 has switched to a SD card model, they are just trying that out. They still plan to use DVDs in a number of their models for a while to come, and they plan to offer support for older DVD models for quite a while ("longer than you own the car" was the phrase they used). On top of that, they gave me a target date of end of July for the 2009 update, and said that we can get everything we need on www.mazdanavigation.com.

I called up 3 times and spoke to 3 different people just to make sure someone wasn't telling me what i wanted to here - and they were all consistent.

I got some more info from the Mazda parts department. This time I got someone who seemed to know what she was talking about.

The NAVI DVDs have a part number that is followed by a letter - A B C etc. . . the letter indicates an upgraded version.

Current version seems to be "B" but there are none available. She said this usually indicates that Mazda is preparing an update. A part will become scarse because it's not being manufactured anymore in anticipation of a newer one coming out.

This seems to follow what tulanejosh found out and would be on track for a July release. She said she should more more in another week or two and to call her back. As soon as the "C" version is available, she advised for me to order one as they probably will be hard to get. We'll see . . . I'll post anything else I find out.

I really don't know why we have to pay for an upgrade - I bought a new 2009 mazda6 iGT in March. The navigation discs in it are so woefully out of date (particularly in Northern VA where I live). The maps are easily 2 years old and the POIs are easily 3 or more years out of date).

Same here. I got my 09 6 GT in mid-May, and the maps contained therein are largely useless for Austin, and the ones provided are easily 3 years old. Austin has grown leaps and bounds since 2004-2005. I'm missing complete Expressways, etc.

These updates can't come soon enough.

The GPS maps are quite old, its accually kinda sad. They better not make us pay, I just bought a $33k car from them.
